Our nation’s capitol has topped several fitness lists, marking it as a top contender among fitness-friendly cities. If you enjoy taking in a city by foot, or want help reaching your daily Fitbit goal, Washington, D.C., is a fitness-traveler’s dream. Even better, most of the area’s major landmarks and attractions are in close proximity to each other (and free!). From the National Mall and Memorial Park to Georgetown, there are dozens of walkable (and bikeable) routes to explore D.C.’s key landmarks. Walk the Tidal Basin during the famous National Cherry Blossom Festival, celebrated around the city each spring, and make your way around the beautiful pink-blossomed trees that swoop down and touch the water. And if you’re up for something a little more involved, D.C. is also home to two major annual marathon races: the Marine Corps Marathon, held in the autumn, and the Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon held in the spring.
