Description

The breath-taking sights of central Ecuador await you on this day trip along the Avenue of the Volcanoes. Visit the spectacular high country of the Andean páramos and admire the round crater lake in Quilotoa for an unforgettable look at the world of the great South American mountains.

Your tour starts with a ride from your hotel that takes you south of Quito, passing by the towns of Latacunga and Pujilí on your way. Stop to visit a local straw house, built in keeping with centuries-old Andean tradition, to meet a local family and get to know the customs of the people on the mountains.

Next, visit the town of Tigua, famous for its colourful paintings that show scenes of local life, as you continue to the slopes of Quilotoa. Descend to the shores of the lake that rests inside the crater, and admire the jagged ridge of the caldera surrounding the water, before a drive through the beautiful highland landscape carries you back to Quito.

Our tour guide, Diego, was very knowledgeable about the places we visited. He went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience, best pictures of the trip up to Quilotoa Lagoon. He advised us before hand of the weather so we would be best prepared, and even informed us of the rarity of snow caps on the peaks of mountains. We really enjoyed the stop before the lagoon where we visited an indigenous family, who were very nice and welcoming. We look forward to booking more tours from Latin Adventures.

The vehicle was cramped and uncomfortable. The right rear passenger door did not open from the inside, which was unsafe. The driver drove repeatedly well over the speed limit and overtook at no-crossing lines many times. The car that was used was unable to be used in the city, due to local restrictions on car usage at rush-hour. As a result, we had to drive around the city edge in rush-hour traffic to meet another car, so a 9 hour advertised trip turned into an 11 hour trip.
