Newgrange & Hill of Tara Full-Day Tour

by Gray Line Dublin Duration 9h Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
Price Not Available

Special dates 29-30 MARCH 2019.

Sit back and relax as we escape deep into the countryside. We will take you back in time to the seat of the High Kings of Ireland at the Hill of Tara.

Our first stop of the day is in the small picturesque fishing village of Howth. We drive through Howth Summit where you can appreciate spectacular views looking out over Dublin Bay. Let the fresh sea breeze invigorate you before we head to the countryside.

Continuing to Newgrange, this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site is dated 3,200BC and is one of the oldest and largest Neolithic burial chambers in Europe predating the Egyptian pyramids! Older than Stonehenge, for 5,000 years the ancient megalithic tomb at Newgrange has housed the remains of Stone Age ‘aristocracy’, sheltering the spirits of the long dead from the outside world. As part of your experience, you will be taken on a guided tour inside the tomb of Newgrange. We are one of the few companies who can provide you with this unique experience.

The Hill of Tara was once the ancient capital of Ireland. It was here that the King of Ireland was decided. Legend says that stone called the Lia Fail cried out when the true King touched the stone. Why not visit the Hill and touch the stone and see if it cries out!

Gerry (our tour guide) and Kevin (our bus driver) kept things rolling along and both entertained and educated us the entire trip! I am a tour guide, and it takes a lot to impress me, but I was indeed impressed with the depth and breadth of Gerry’s knowledge of the area, his delivery, and his very upbeat attitude. The weather was unusually good for the end of October, too, making for a really great time. The guide at Newgrange itself, Deirdre, was excellent, too, and the museum at Newgrange is first rate. Tara was the end of our tour, and a little dark at this time of year, but again, Gerry informed us and brought the site to life. I recommend this tour to anyone interested in Irish history, but it won’t resume until spring.

Even with it dumping buckets of rain, our driver Eoin made the whole day enjoyable. Each stop was amazing history and our driver had jokes, history tidbits and other fun things to keep us entertained. I would definitely do a bus day trip with him again!

This was a great tour with the beautiful sites to see and the history behind the places we visited. The tour guide Aoin who was also the driver was a great tour guide and driver. I recommend this as Aoin is a great tour guide and very informative.
