Snuggled between 2 harbours and framed by forested mountain ranges, it's no wonder that Auckland—the largest city in New Zealand—frequently tops lists of the world's most liveable cities. Take in the natural beauty and historic sites around town at your own pace with a hop-on hop-off bus tour.

Spend a day exploring Auckland's top attractions on a comfortable double-decker bus. As you cruise through downtown districts and quaint suburbs, your driver shares commentary on the city's vibrant culture and intriguing past. Jump off the bus to visit Eden Park – home of the beloved All Blacks rugby team – or check out the botanical sights at the Winter Gardens. Climb to the top of Mount Eden to take in a view over the sprawling metropolis or pick up a ticket to the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) for insight into the history of Kiwi ingenuity.

Stroll the shops and galleries of Parnell Village and get up close to underwater creatures at Kelly Tarlton's SEA LIFE Aquarium. Gaze out over the harbour from Bastion Point, walk along Mission Bay with your toes in the sand or learn about the America's Cup that took place on Viaduct Harbour. The City of Sails is yours to explore as you hop on and off at the sights that appeal to you most.

We enjoyed the red tour, and the chance to use the return ticket on the ferry to go to Devonport, which is a lovely little town with great views of Auckland as you look back across the bay. We were on a cruise ship that was late arriving in Auckland, which meant that we were unable to do the blue tour and get back to the dock before the last red tour finished its run. In hindsight, we should have taken the red tour from the dock to the museum, then the full blue tour, then picked up the red tour at the museum on its way back to the dock, and then gone on the ferry to Devonport - oh well, next time!
