What you can expect

Just southwest of Mexico City looms Nevado de Toluca, one of Mexico's most accessible volcanoes. Head out on a full-day expedition to explore the Nevado de Toluca National Park with its massive stratovolcano and 2 crystal-clear crater lakes.

Travel down to Nevado de Toluca National Park. Watch the arid scenery of scrub brush and cacti pass by as you wind your way to the park. Once inside the reserve, get closer to the typically snow-covered volcano that stands 15,354 feet (4,680 m) above sea level. From this height, you can see the the picturesque town of Toluca below.

Step out of the vehicle to take a hike around the beautiful alpine lakes of Laguna del Sol and Laguna de la Luna. These dramatic bodies of water are set deep within in the remnants of volcanic eruptions, and they allow you to gain a greater understanding of how this area came to look as it does. Before heading back to your hotel, be sure to ask your expert guide any questions you may have about this magical landscape.
