Discover the real-life charm of filming locations used in the famed TV series Downton Abbey. Your behind-the-scenes tour allows you to visit the setting for the show’s exterior village scenes in Bampton, wander the beautiful old town of Oxford, and relish in the beauty of Highclere Castle.

Start on your Downton Abbey adventure as you head to Oxford – the City of Dreaming Spires. Walk around the stunning centre with its Gothic churches, chapels and medieval college buildings. Afterwards, enjoy some free time and opt to grab lunch at one of the traditional pubs, or stroll the cobbled streets and learn more about the area’s culture.

Continue to Bampton, a classic British hamlet that serves as the central backdrop for the hit drama. See Mathew Crawley’s mother’s house, pass Downton Hospital, and stop at the Vesey room, where the Bampton Archive is stored and various local exhibitions are displayed.

At Highclere Castle, get an insider’s look at the “real” Downton Abbey and uncover the history behind the walls that were built by Sir Charles Berry. Get a chance to view the public area, the glorious main hall, the library and the sitting room – all featured in the award-winning show.

You also have the opportunity to explore the majestic castle grounds at your leisure. Admire the fine interiors, saunter through the scenic parklands or indulge in a cream tea, before heading back to London with a signed copy of real-life countess Lady Carnarvon’s newest book.

It wad rainy, but totally enjoyed the tour. Once leaving London we viewed the Oxfordshire landscape even though it was a bit foggy it was totally enjoyable to see something green and growing. Stopped at a rest stop before Oxford. At Oxford we were given choices. I chose the famous Christ Church a short walk from a drop off point in the city. Christ Church, an amazing building. Particularly enjoyed the great dining hall which they used in the filming of Harry Potter. Lunch was on your own. Next was Bampton which was used for the filming of Downton Abbey. The whole village was charming. Quaint cottages and thatched roofs. The gift shop small and welcoming. Highclere castle was amazing. The castle is beautifully decorated, in Victorian style. The Grand staircase was wonderful. The Egypt exhibit is extra and I did not see it. Closed at 4pm. The grounds, secret garden, and gift shop are all worth seeing. Carol/ tour guide was wonderful and Ricardo/ driver was attentive.. Highly recommend.
