What you can expect

Wind along lakeside roads that weave around craggy peaks, see the saturated strata in colourful canyons, and get up-close looks at herds of bison in open grasslands. Dive into the rugged landscapes around Waterton Lakes National Park on this full-day excursion.

In a comfortable coach, ride out of Calgary and into the evergreen forests, granite peaks, and prairie grasslands of Waterton Lakes National Park. Cruise around the shores of Waterton Lake, catching glimpses of Mount Blakiston's 9,547-foot (2,910-m) summit as you approach the historic Prince of Wales Hotel, built in 1927 as a welcome retreat for outdoor-loving Albertan.

Continue to Red Rock Canyon (it will be replaced by Okotoks if it is closed), where a creek by the same name has carved away the surrounding landscapes to reveal bright cliffs in shades of ochre and crimson. Nearby, you can capture photos of the mist-shrouded cascades at Cameron Falls before making a final stop at a sanctuary dedicated to preserving herds of roaming bison. Spend some time watching these gentle giants graze, learn how their numbers were drastically reduced due to over hunting, and then head back to Calgary in the early evening.
