Description

Follow winding roads past fields packed with lavender, explore medieval cities perched atop ochre cliffs and get up-close looks at a Roman-era aqueduct. With an experienced guide to share colourful commentary along the way, explore all that Provence has to offer on this immersive day tour.

Meet up in central Avignon or arrange for pick-up directly from your hotel before heading south of the city, cruising through pastoral landscapes to arrive at the Pont du Gard, an aqueduct that has carried water over the River Gardon for nearly 2,000 years. Continue on and pick your way up the narrow streets that lead to Les Baux-de-Provence, a hilltop village nestled in the Alpilles mountains, and then make a photo stop in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where Van Gogh painted his iconic masterpiece, The Starry Night.

Spend the afternoon wandering around Roussillon's yellow-, red- and orange-hued cliffs, and listen to your guide share intriguing stories about the city's ochre mines before heading to the charming town of Gordes. When you arrive, look for Cistercian monks farming lavender outside the Sénanque Abbey, and then wrap up your excursion in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, a quaint commune at the base of the Vaucluse mountains where natural springs feed the burbling waters of the Sorgue river.

My wife and I had a great time. We shared a nice van with two other couples. Our excellent guide Terry planned the trip so well that we avoided the rain and visited every site. Terry made a special effort to find us a lavender field (on June 6th) and a picture-perfect field of poppy flowers. He is very kind, professional, and knowledgeable about the area. I strongly recommend the trip and Terry.
