About this activity
What's included, what's not
Bus from El Chaltén to El Calafate airport.
What you can expect
Start your 3-hour trip to El Calafate airport with a pick up at your hotel, and prepare to travel 3 hours in a comfortable minibus with up to 13 people. As the minibus leaves the town of El Chaltén on the way to the legendary Route 40, take in the sights of Mount Fitz Roy, Mount Torres, and Glacier Piedras Blancas.
Native wildlife will start to appear if you’re looking closely. You may see the guanacos, native Argentine llamas, will be grazing, the ñandues, Patagonia ostriches, scouring the horizon, and, if you’re lucky, even pumas, which are rare but native to the region.
Finally, pass by Lake Viedma, where you’ll see one last imposing glacier. Reach the route and make a 10-minute stop at La Leona, an ancient Patagonian ranch, where you can enjoy a quick snack or just wander around the souvenir store. Pass by La Leona River and Lake Argentino, and enjoy their milky-blue waters before finally arriving at the airport in El Calafate. You will arrive in El Chaltén as the morning turns to afternoon. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing from your travel day by exploring a nearby waterfall or enjoying a pint at the local brewery.
