Set out from Warner Stables for an evening full of trail riding, stunning surroundings and a barbecue. Whether you're on horseback or in a covered wagon, trek along the base of Sulphur Mountain, enjoy free time for games and relaxation and savour a sizzling steak dinner, straight off the grill.

At Warner Stables, located right outside of Banff city centre, hop in the back of a covered wagon or learn the basics of horseback riding with some brief, expert instruction. Once you're ready to go, head out on an hour-long trail ride, taking in the sounds and sights of this remote natural area. Hear the rushing Bow River, the rustle of underbrush and tips from your cowboy-guides.

When you arrive at the campsite, challenge your friends to a game of horseshoes or try your hand at calf roping while your cook prepares dinner. Then sit down to a meal of barbecued steak, homemade baked beans, Caesar salad and a baked potato.

After you've had your fill – and topped it off with dessert and coffee – hit the trail once more, relishing your full stomach, your trusty horse or wagon, and the national park settling in to sleep.
