Black River Safari Cruise & YS Falls

by Jamaica Tours Limited Duration 7h+ Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per adult Price is C$113

From a pontoon boat, enjoy Jamaica’s natural wildlife and tropical setting as you cruise down the Black River. Your eco-tour continues with a swim in the natural, cool water pool at the foot of YS Falls.

A scenic 50-mile (80 km) drive south-east on the south coast delivers you to the parish of St. Elizabeth where you board a pontoon boat for a glide down the Black River towards the Caribbean Sea. Cruise through swamp and lush vegetation. While exploring remote mangroves, keep your ears open for native birds such as graceful egrets and herons and watch for the river’s most notorious inhabitants – crocodiles.

Once back on land, savour a traditional Jamaican lunch of chicken, fish or pork as well as delicious fresh greens. Then take a short drive to the majestic, 37-metre (120-foot) YS Falls.

The YS Falls are stunning as they pour down seven tiers of cliffs into a natural pool that beckons you for a refreshing swim. Use the on-site changing rooms to slip into your swimming costume and then enjoy some time on your own taking in the natural wonders. Swim in the cool waters, walk along the river pathway, or relax and lounge on the riverbank before heading back to your hotel.

Needed to exchange Expedia voucher for a Jamaican tours one but we did not arrive until 1830 the day before so this caused some confusion on the day of the trip but we got it all sorted by the friendly staff who ran the trip Very enjoyable day, it takes around 3.5 hours each way from mo bay so make sure you have what you need before you set off It was worth every minute

Wow! A truly beautiful tour indeed. Even though there is fairly significant travel time, with the first leg of our journey taking 4 hours in my case personally, the crew we had of Linda (guide) and Dwight (driver) were very knowledgeable, friendly and were engaging the entire time. We had an extremely small group, as there was only one other couple with us on the bus, so there was only one stop to collect other passengers before we headed out. YS Falls is breathtakingly beautiful, from the scenic farm grounds, the beautiful swimming areas as well as the main attraction, the rushing rapid themselves. Zipliners were flying overhead, while the water raged in front of us. The natural swimming pool is beautiful and refreshing, and adds an element of serenity to contrast the excitement of the falls themselves. The restaurant here is also pretty good, and a gift shop exist. You'll travel everywhere on this property with a Jitney just based on how large it is. The Black River Cruise portion also delivered, and the pontoon boat ride was thrilling. The guide we had was very thorough and offered a large amount of background on the river, as well as it's significance and importance to the island's technological developments. The views seen are difficult to put into words, with large areas of mangroves, mirror reflective water and the main attraction of crocodiles of course. They most certainly do exist in this river, and are no strangers, with many of them actively seeking and approaching the boat looking for food or other scraps. The guide did advise it makes them lazy to feed them, but so many other guides have already done this that it would be impossible to break them out of that expectation now. The river is teeming with life though, with different herons and egrets also making an appearance, alongside different sorts of fish such as tilapia and gar. The lunch served at the Dock Restaurant was also very good, and made for a very complete journey. I may be biased to this trip as it was such a small group, so I will conclude with the statement that your mileage may vary, as group size and passenger location can play a big factor in travel times and overall enjoyment. With a combined group of 4, 5 including our guide, we were able to have a much more personal experience with all the different aspects of the tour, and for that reason the experience likely was far better than if the traditional 10-15 people were present. Either way I would recommend giving this a shot hands down if you're looking for a solid way to start off your vacation, or a fitting Grand Finale to bring it to a proper, memorable close
