Belém Tour

by Sandeman's New Europe Duration 2h 30m Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per traveller Price is C$22

Embark on a day-long exploration of the trendy and historic district of Belém on the mouth of the Tagus River. Admire the beautiful UNESCO-listed sites at the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery, see the Discoveries monument and learn all about the area's history from your expert guide.

Meet your guide at Praça do Comércio, one of the largest squares in Europe, and make your way toward Belém. Get up close to the impressive limestone structure of the Belém Tower and learn about its history – the tower dates back to the 16th century, when it was built to support the defence system of the country. If you turn left by the riverside, you can see the brilliant, Golden Gate-esque 25th of April Bridge and take a snapshot of it with the towering Christ the King Statue in the background.

Visit the Portuguese Monument to the Discoveries and listen as your guide explains the symbolism of the sculpture, telling you about brave Portuguese maritime conquests from centuries past. Walk from country to country to mark the discoveries on a large marble map on the floor.

Next, head to Jerónimos Monastery. Admire the breathtakingly beautiful, late Gothic Manueline façades and step inside to discover the sacred complex's marvellous interiors. Your tour ends with a chance to pick up tips from your guide on top restaurants and bars, plus directions to the famous factory – open since 1837 – that produces the delicious custardy pastries known as * pastéis de Belém*.

It was such an entertaining and informative tour due entirely to the engaging and electrifying personality of the tour guide,Chico from Sandeman. I recommend thid tour to everyone visiting Lisbon! They could legitimately charge more if they wanted. Its that fun!

Expedia messed up BADLY!! I arrived to the Belem tour at 1430 (AS INDICATED ON EXPEDIA'S WEBSITE) on Wednesday July 13th at the Praca do Comercio only to be told that the Belem tour is at the Paco Luis Camoes and it started at 10 am! !! The tour company worked something out where we completed the Alfama walking tour on Wednesday and return Thursday at 1000 at Praca Luis Camoes and receive a four Euro discount The company informed me that Expedia was advised to change the information on their website TWO WEEKS ago and it has yet to he done! Please get your act together so that other people do not have his experience!!
