But sometimes it seems like there\u2019s just never enough space \u2013 whether that\u2019s because we own too much, hold possessions too dear, or simply have the folding skills of a T-Rex.<\/p>\n<p>Just take the cult following that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newstatesman.com\/culture\/observations\/2016\/01\/marie-kondo-more-tidying-guru-she-has-perfected-radical-theory\">Marie Kondo, arguably the world\u2019s only decluttering and folding celebrity,<\/a> has garnered in the wake of her book, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/tidyingup.com\/books\/the-life-changing-magic-of-tidying-up-hc\">The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up<\/a>\u201d. This is in no small part due to her (semi)radical philosophy towards possessions and space-saving; she encourages her readers to ask themselves, \u201cDo your things spark joy?\u201d If the answer is no, you thank the possession for its years of loyal service and discard them with a hug (\u2018Farewell, thou good and faithful servant!\u2019).<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s nothing short of liberating, and wholly relevant to those among us with wanderlust trying to maximize suitcase space when travelling. The first thing that \u2018Konverts\u2019 learn about the \u2018KonMari\u2019 method is the folding technique \u2013 turning unfolded laundry into neat, collapsed rectangles that can be easily stored or presented. But there are other, more efficient ways of folding clothes to maximize space in a small carry-on luggage. Mastering <a href=\"https:\/\/snapguide.com\/guides\/fold-a-shirt-military-style-save-space-and-room\/\">the military-style roll<\/a>, for instance, can prove far better for packing as many clothes as possible within the tight confines of your case \u2013 particularly if you\u2019re taking lots of t-shirts and tops with you.<\/p>\n<p>To start, you simply fold both of the sleeves inward and the bottom behind. Next work from each side of the shirt to fold those inwards towards the center, taking care to overlap each one. Finally, roll the entire shirt from top to bottom and the two flaps to \u2018tuck in\u2019 like a burrito.<\/p>\n<p>But of course, if it simply won\u2019t fit (and you can\u2019t break the laws of physics) then follow a KonMari-lite approach \u2013 before putting clothes and possessions in your suitcase, ask if this possession will spark joy on your vacation.
