Well, here\u2019s a chance to tell her she was wrong and you\u2019d like an apology for all those time-outs. When you travel outside your country, some of your routine habits can be seen as downright rude. So whether you consider yourself a Hermione Granger-level rule follower or an Evel Knievel-rules-are-for-fools maniac, here are some cultural habits to remember when travelling around the world.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Just You and Your Hands Tonight<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When in Russia, just do as Lil Rob would do and keep those \u201chands up! (put \u2018em up!).\u201d In Mother Russia, it\u2019s not only customary to keep your hands on the table when you eat or meet for business, it\u2019s nearly a requirement. Resting your hands under the table implies you\u2019re doing something uncouth, indecent, or plain deceitful. It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re twiddling your thumbs or anything else down there&#8211;it\u2019s not appreciated.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Surrender the Salt <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/expedia.blog.ca.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/sea-salt-on-spoon-and-thyme.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7354\" src=\"http:\/\/expedia.blog.ca.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/sea-salt-on-spoon-and-thyme.jpg\" alt=\"sea salt on spoon and thyme\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turn on any cooking show and you\u2019ll inevitably hear a \u201cpinch of salt\u201d coming out of the mouths of just about every diabetes-inducing celebrity chef. However, you do not want to pinch, squeeze, or even politely mingle with salt when you\u2019re around a table in Egypt. Sprinkling salt on your meal signals displeasure with your food, and is a massive insult to your host. Granted, why salt would be there in the first place is a real question. Perhaps it is a test. Whatever the case, just don\u2019t do it.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lucky? Or a Slap Across the Face <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Next time you\u2019re in Vietnam and you cross your fingers for good luck, don\u2019t be surprised if the women give you aghast looks. Crossing your fingers in Vietnam is seen as a crude symbol for women\u2019s privates. Needless to say, you won\u2019t be getting lucky in the country if you make this gesture.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Waiting for the White Rabbit <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/expedia.blog.ca.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Retro-alarm-clock.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7355\" src=\"http:\/\/expedia.blog.ca.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Retro-alarm-clock.jpg\" alt=\"Retro alarm clock\" width=\"1000\" height=\"664\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Are you someone who\u2019s always late? Perfect, you\u2019re going to fit right in in Venezuela. While your mother, boss, girlfriend, and best friend told you to stop being late, well, this argument can be thrown out the window in most of South America. It\u2019s assumed that if anyone invites you anywhere in Venezuela, you\u2019ll arrive 10-20 minutes late, if not more. Arriving early is confusing and not welcomed.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Gum is Dumb<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Remember how Mom said not to chew gum with your mouth open? Try not to chew gum at all when you\u2019re in Switzerland, France, or Singapore. Gobbing on that chewy weird stuff is seen as rude and unattractive. No one will reward you with a biggest bubble prize, just the biggest doof label behind your back.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Fork the Pork \u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Are you one of those fancy sorts who eats pizza with a knife and fork? If so, your tribe is located in Norway. These classy folks always use a knife and fork with their meals, including innocuous snacks like sandwiches. How exactly you\u2019re supposed to eat a BLT with a knife and fork is beyond us, but hey, make an effort.<\/p>\n<p>It might be weird news to hear that your salt use, lucky gestures, and punctuality are seen as offensive, but these habits are indeed rude in certain cultures.
