You&#8217;ll likely have to spend money on some of the special things so here&#8217;s how to save on some of the basics.<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0<strong>Connect with a local greeter. <\/strong>There are greeter programmes in both cities offering tours by volunteers who love their city so much that they want to share it with visitors. Book your greeter online before you go using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greeters.paris\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paris Greeters<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.londongreeters.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London Greeters<\/a>. Take an almost free walking tour.<\/strong> Sandeman\u2019s is the original free walking tour that operates in London, Paris, and 16 other European cities. There are many others as well. All you have to do is search online for \u201cfree walking tours\u201d with the name of your preferred city to find your options. Explore the cathedrals.<\/strong> Much of the histories of London and Paris centre on Christianity and grand cathedrals. In Paris, go to the\u00a0Cath\u00e9drale Notre Dame de Paris and the\u00a0Basilique du Sacr\u00e9 Coeur. Visits to both are free. I especially like just wandering around Notre Dame de Paris in the evening. In London there are fees to enter Westminster Abbey and St. Paul\u2019s Cathedral, however St. Martin in the Fields is open to the public with free concerts at noon most days. It\u2019s located on Trafalgar Square.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/expedia.blog.ca.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Paris-Pantheon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"416\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Paris Pantheon \u2013 perfect for a rainy day and free on the first Sunday of every month.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Visit museums on the cheap.\u00a0<\/strong>While the churches of Paris are free, the museums are not. And while the churches of London charge an admission fee, the museums generally don\u2019t. In London you can go to most museums and enjoy their permanent collections (not special exhibits) for free. In Paris, most of the museums are only free on the first Sunday of the month. You may want to avoid the Louvre that day as it will\u00a0be very crowded but many of the other museums would be great options. The\u00a0Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay has reduced ticket prices after 4:30 p.m. every day except Thursdays when it starts after 6:00 p.m.\u00a0For those who want to\u00a0spend lots of time at museums, consider a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.parismuseumpass.com\/rub-t-price-36.htm\">Paris Museum Pass<\/a>\u00a0which is available for two, four, or six days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get discounted theatre tickets<\/strong>.\u00a0In Paris there is the Kiosque Th\u00e9\u00e2tre\u00a0offering half-price tickets for same-day performances in comedy, stand-up, cabaret, and theatre. The main Kiosque is opposite n\u00b0 15 Place de la Madeleine, but you\u2019ll also find stands at Ternes and Montparnasse. In London you\u2019ll see options for discounted tickets in many places but the theatres recommend going to the kiosk on the south end of Leicester Square.
