What Canadians should do on their next trip to Vegas
October is Canadian Appreciation Month in Las Vegas, making it the perfect time to take a trip to enjoy all that Vegas has to offer. And what you may not know, is that there is so much to do outside of the glitzy casinos and the dazzling famous Vegas Strip. There’s hiking in red sandstone canyons, creative art districts and fantastic museums. So whatever kind of trip you are looking for – Vegas has something for everyone!
Soak in the Strip
Start your trip to Vegas by taking in the famous Strip! And what better way to do that than from above. Take a cue from your fellow Canadian travellers and step onto the world’s highest observation wheel – The High Roller. It’s Expedia.ca’s top-selling activity and has glass capsules that give an unmatched view of the surrounding strip1. For a more thrilling view, zipline over the strip at Fly LINQ Zipline.
If gambling isn’t your thing, there is still golf, amusement parks, shopping plazas and musical residencies from artists as diverse as Lady Gaga, Shania Twain and Drake.
Fremont Street
This downtown Vegas street is probably the most famous in the city outside of the Strip. Fremont Street is the downtown Vegas’ casino corridor that is home to some of the city’s most famous casinos such as Binion’s Horseshow, the Golden Nugget and the Fremont Hotel and Casino. The street is also famous for its neon signs that gave the street the nickname “Glitter Gulch”.
Outdoor Attractions
Vegas understands that a few days indoors gives most Canadians cabin fever. Trade your poker chips for a camera and hiking boots to capture breath-taking views of the Grand Canyon – the #3 activity for Las Vegas on Expedia.ca1 – or hike through the red sandstone keyholes and corkscrew formations of Antelope Canyon, a quick day trip away. Thrill seekers can also explore the Mojave Desert on an ATV.
Red Rock Canyon is another outdoor option for travellers. This National Conservation Area is only 15 miles from the city and is clearly visible from hotels on the Strip. Red Rock Canyon is a protected habitat for wildlife in the area and is a great spot to see bighorn sheep and desert tortoises.
The canyon also has plenty to hike and explore. The red sandstone walls climb over 3,000 feet into the air and are perfect for rock climbing. The surrounding area is great for hikes, horse-back riding and bicycle touring. For those looking for a day trip to experience the great outdoors, this is a perfect option to consider.
Las Vegas Arts District
Set aside as an 18-block zone for art and artists, the Las Vegas Arts District is one of the city’s most vibrant and exciting attractions. Boutiques such as Hot Mess Boutique, JJ Clocks & Antiques, and ArtCulture PR are perfect for spending a morning shopping for clothes, antiques, or other collectibles. And of course, be sure to stop by the District’s many great restaurants such as the Artifice Bar which also features live-music. Or Casa Don Juan for some of Vegas’ best Mexican food.
Exotic Racing
Ever wanted to sit behind the wheel of a Ferrari or Lamborghini? At Exotic Racing you can drive out your dreams with rentals of some of the most expensive sports cars in the world. Just a few of the offerings include the McLaren 570, Aston Martin DB11, Porsche 911, and Lamborghini Huracan. If you’re interested in fast cars and motor performance, you can’t pass this Vegas opportunity up.
The Mob Museum
There are few cities with an origin story quite like Las Vegas. While the city was founded hundreds of years ago, it only rose to prominence after receiving an influx of cash and influence from organized crime syndicates. This illicit history is recorded and showcased in the incredible Mob Museum, which shines a light into how Las Vegas was built into the gambling capital that it is today.
