Follow the scenic Jager Walk to encounter rock pools full of marine creatures. Fishermen launch nets on the quieter northern section of the beach. Visit locally owned coffee houses to appreciate the preserved charm and village feel here. Explore the hilly terrain and encounter the famous caves of the region. Paleolithic skeletons dating back 12,000 years were discovered in Peers Cave. The formation of such caves in sandstone mountains is a rare geological phenomenon. Learn the history of the area, which was initially used for fishing and whaling. It was a dry section, where alcohol was banned until recently. Note that alcoholic beverages are now served in restaurants and bars, although you can’t buy bottles directly from shops. The Cape Doctor winds help to alleviate the heat here in mid-summer.
