New data shows momentum for U.S. host cities, including New Jersey, which has seen the largest spike in global flight searches (+40%<sup>1<\/sup>), and Kansas City, now the fastest-rising destination for stays (+70%<sup>2<\/sup>), fuelled in part by major team basecamps and growing fan interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, affordability is shaping where and how fans travel. Several host cities \u2014 including Mexico City, Guadalajara and New Jersey \u2014 are offering average daily hotel rates under $415<sup>3<\/sup>, while overall hotel prices are trending down 10% in the past two weeks\u2014including in Vancouver, where prices have fallen 15%. Budget-savvy travellers are also increasingly opting for nearby \u201calt destinations\u201d like Worcester, MA, Hamilton, ON and Richmond, BC, where they can save $100 or more per night while staying within easy reach of the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data also highlights a surge in long-haul fandom, led by Brazil and Argentina, where travel searches have skyrocketed by more than 500%, underscoring the global draw of the tournament \u2014 and the growing willingness of fans to travel farther, even at the last minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDemand isn\u2019t slowing, it\u2019s shifting,\u201d said Melanie Fish, VP of Expedia Group brands public relations. \u201cFans are adjusting to higher prices by booking later, exploring alternative cities, and finding smarter ways to make the trip work. The desire to experience the biggest soccer tournament ever in person is still very much there, but people are getting crafty about how to make it happen.\u201d<br><br><strong>Last Minute&nbsp;Trends: Top Soccer Cities&nbsp;and Best Affordability<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With just one week to go until the summer of soccer kicks off, Expedia reveals the latest last-minute insights on the surging travel demand, as fans plan their North American trips:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Average ticket prices for flights for Canadians are up over 20%<sup>4<\/sup> on average to the 16 host cities. San Francisco (up 50%) and Newark (45%) are the most expensive, with Monterrey easily the most affordable option, down 35% compared to last year. Notably, for U.S. travellers, Toronto is the destination that has seen the smallest average ticket price increase, at just 15%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Los Angeles is proving the most popular host city for stays and flights, likely driven by high demand from U.S. fans, with Team USA games taking place in the city.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monterrey and Kansas City are the two host cities trending highest globally for stays, with lodging searches up 80%<sup>2<\/sup> and 70%<sup>2<\/sup> respectively. For Canadians, specifically, looking to travel to games in other cities, Kansas City is by far the most popular destination, with flight searches up 55% and lodging searches up an astounding 425% from last year. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Canadian cities offer the biggest opportunity for travelling fans, with searches for both flights and lodging down this past month. Brazilian fans are proving the most dedicated of&nbsp;them&nbsp;all, with searches up 580%<sup>6<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local support across the host countries is still up year-on-year, but softening as we get closer to kick off.
