(1,004 reviews) The hotel is luxurious. Perfectly captures the colonial vibe. The staff, especially at check-in, did not seem to match the luxury feel of the hotel. There is no sense of welcoming the guests, and at times showing annoyance at the guests because they couldn’t navigate their own front desk system. Also, my Marriot points were not granted after checking with the front desk 3 times. And it’s still been 1 month now. On the topic of asking things 3 times, I had to also pester the front desk for a sofa bed to be set up in my parents’ room with my sister. They took 3 hours and constant pestering. They had assumed I did not pay for a 3rd guest. I had to prove it via Expedia. For a luxury hotel, this information should’ve been captured when I paid for everything upfront. Great hotel, not so great staff. (418 reviews) We had a 4 day stop over here ,just to relax. I knew there was some renovation work going on but not to much and not at weekends. There was loads (its a large extension project) and work carried on all through the weekend. Totally spoiled the garden views. The whole hotel is very dated ,tatty and my room clean wasnt great. The room felt slightly damp when we went in as if it has been un used for sometime. Also we had no rail in the wardrobe just 2 hooks ( i did report this to reception) which ment we had cloths laying around unable to hang up. The pool area is a little run down . No bar , no drinks at all. No staff most of the time. The pool was also completely shut on one of our days. Without any warning ( i just ignored the closed sign). There is in fact no bar in the hotel at all. You cannot get anything to drink except tea, coffee, fruit juice or water. There is no wine at dinner. Just water. The restaurant isnt up to much . The whole place is really past its sell by date. After all that the staff were very sweet and helpful and the bed was very comfortable. I wouldn't recommend for western travellers.
