Great Area to explore Amsterdam from. It was nice to NOT be in city center, but near tons of stuff. About a 30min walk to the mid west of the canal rings. 10 min bus ride to Amsterdam central train ( take the 48 not the 22, faster) bus is a 5 min walk from hotel and there are blocks of stores & eateries there.
Depending when you go, you will pay way less for an apt type room then a tiny one on the canals.
