(1,003 reviews) Travelled as a single. Nice room in older building (poor water pressure in shower), excellent cleaning, JoJos was good, Pelago was awful (note: hotel manager did apply partial refund after chatting with her), pool chairs with umbrellas can be difficult to find (people get up at 6 AM to throw towels on chairs to claim for the day), day spa was good - good Swedish Massage, not a very wide beach, staff was nice/polite- but did not go out of their way to be warm or informative, there is a happy hour bar-but darned if I could find it, nice that the hotel is next to/on Princess Alexandra Reef, but a few miles from “downtown”, cab rides were $16 each way to and from town, tremendous amount of building going on in/around Providenciales - good & bad, had fun at the very touristy Thursday Night Fish Fry, disappointing “sail” on Lady Grace-but in part was due to weather related seas that prevented snorkeling. All in all a nice few days, just not spectacular. (1,003 reviews) This is a beautiful hotel with beautiful English gardens. The renovated rooms are clean and well appointed. Bedding and comfort is excellent. The downside of this hotel is that unless you opt for what they call the Butler service, you will not get a poolside lounge chair in a good location. The pool is situated on the grounds in a way that they're not many chairs that have sun for most of the day. The butlers are out at six in the morning, reserving these chairs for the people that pay for their service as well as the "owners" of some units. It's easier to get a lounge chair on the beach, but it feels like the chairs are lined up like you're on a cruise ship very close to each other and not very appealing. The beach chairs have no cushions on them. The beach is not raked on any regular basis so there are piles of dried seaweed all over. The island itself is very expensive. First time I've been to a country where the taxis charge by person instead of by car. Most rides charged between $6 and $10 a person for a ride of 5 to 6 minutes. We've been to some of the most highly rated restaurants on the island as well as some more casual places. They were all uniformly overpriced, by New York suburban standards, and offered mediocre to pretty good quality. You will be paying a lot for not exceptional food. I cannot recommend this hotel, nor the island.
