What a misleading, dishonest statement by the hotel. On arrival I was advised the breakfast was a continental with fresh pastries. Not so. Pastries were thawed out frozen items. Mostly inedible. An OJ, yoghurt, small amount of fresh milk, boring corn flakes. Not even additional tea or coffee sachets. IF THE BREAKFAST IS CONTINENTAL IT NEEDS TO BE HONESTLY DISCLOSED IN THE HOTEL INFORMATION SO POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS CAN MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE. I never choose continental. I surely will never choose or recommend this hotel. Also heating was blasting out of the radiator which I tried to turn down but the control knob broke off. Many good qualities to accommodation but for the price the standard of some aspects, especially security and mattress quality, was poor. Several electrical sockets in my room didn’t work. All staff I met were friendly and polite. Milk was forgotten when my first morning breakfast hamper appeared - no staff if anything is needed. Cons: Room freezing to start with! (heating had not been put on), bed matress not for those with a bad back, council bin run at 5am and local building works very noisy (not hotel's fault), staff did not inform us that breakfast slot had a 10 minute limit - arrived at 9.10am to be told too late and would not be served!!!!! How rude. Over all would try again in the summer perhaps, if other city center hotels were full. Lovely old (Tudor?) building with traditional wooden features, heaps of unique character and a charming pub on the ground floor! Staff were friendly and efficient and the standard hamper breakfast brought to the door on time. No parking as located in city centre but therefore walkable to many touristic amenities and facilities. I stayed in the King John room. Had a double poster bed and a lovely bathroom. The pub has loads of character and the room was very comfortable.
