We arrived late in the day and I had missed the original Hotels.com email with check in instructions - including lock box code. Given that you check in and check out without seeing the owners, I recommend that the lodge sends a confirmatory email closer to the date. That is the only tiny blemish on an excellent experience. The cabin was very nice and had everything required to be self-sufficient. The owners put out approved food for local wildlife with cockatoos and scrub turkeys appearing during the day, and possums, wallabies and bandicoots at night. You can watch their antics from the little balcony of your cabin. However, the animals are still wild and there were no possums scratching at the door or fighting on the roof. The location: I deliberately chose something well out of the hustle and bustle of Airlie Beach. The cabins are in a very peaceful location on the edge of a sugarcane field about 15 minutes drive from the centre of Airlie Beach. The only noises were those of local wildlife. However, you will need a car, scooter or need to use a taxi to get into town. If you want to be able to stagger back from Magnums or one of the other backpacker bars, this is not for you! Great for romantic getaways.
