The station opened in 1913 and remained operational until 1988. At the time of its construction, it was the tallest rail station in the world. A personal connection to this building would be that my father shipped out from this station to Marine boot camp after being drafted in the Korean War. We had to stow our luggage and get a text which was about 40 minutes later. That wasnā€™t a good start. The rooms were clean and nice but the guest fridge is so small. Much smaller than what we are used to for our water and soda etc. We had to show our ID and get our purse checked every time we came and went to the casino which took some time and the valet parking took at least 45 minutes to get our car. Charging a $26 resort fee Iā€™m just wondering why? It covered valet but forget waiting that long we just self parked. I had a wine bottle to unload and bring to our room but the closest entrance was the casino where the security made you walk all the way to the front of the hotel. We were just going to walk through, but nope. It feels like they were just really understaffed and only having two valet drivers with all the events they had was surprising. I donā€™t plan on coming back. Didnā€™t enjoy paying more here without a good experience.
