Near to Vaikom boat jetty, on the way to the public beach, are 10 sculptures, each of them reminding us of events in the historic Vaikom Satyagraha. But to get through the narrow channels, a kayak or small boat is required. The channels are lined with houses of locals; We navigated through these channels on a canoe with a guide where we passed by beautiful rice fields, and small islands. One of the best parts about travelling through these backwaters is bird watching, as we made our way through the narrower channels. In addition, these tours also include stops at small-scale industries and the local market.
