About this property
CASA LAGO- lake house-Kayaks, Hot Tub, WiFi
Surrounded by nature in the peaceful mountains of Utuado, a town in the central region of Puerto Rico, you will find Casa Lago...In this neat and beautifully decorated Lake House, can sleep up to six (6) guests and no visitors allowed. It has two bedrooms with queen size beds, two full bathrooms, family room, all rooms with linens and towels. This two story wooden house has also a fully equipped kitchen. It also has a dining room, living room, and a large terrace with a hammock that will tempt you for a daily nap, or simply relax while enjoying a nice view of the Caonillas Lake. Most of the time we have a cool breeze weather, although, there are six ceiling fans in the house that will make it more comfortable for you, if needed.
In the lower level of the house there's another terrace and a laundry area with washer. In our large patio, there's a big gazebo with two half bathrooms and plenty of chairs and tables to gather your party and enjoy a charcoal BBQ; all under the shade of bamboo trees.
Begin your day with an aromatic coffee while the morning fog still covers the lake, or prepare a fresh fruit salad with bananas, papayas, mangoes, oranges or pineapples, among other fruits you'll find from vendors along the country roads. Since we are steps away from the lake, you can enjoy fishing from our private dock, kayaking and paddle boarding . For those who seek an adventure or like to exercise, mountain biking or an early jog are great choices to boost your day. To sparkle your evenings, we suggest a nice wine near the fire pit, while listening to the singing of the 'Coquis', an endemic tiny frog and cultural symbol of Puerto Rico. It just can't get any better!
This hidden little piece of heaven is a 1 hour and 30 minute drive from the San Juan International Airport. While in the area, you can plan your visit to many tourist attractions known nearby, that will make your vacation a very exciting and special one. The Caguana Indigenous Ceremonial Park is one of the most popular attractions in Puerto Rico. Here, you will learn about our ancestors, the 'Tainos' indians. archeologist have uncoverd many artifacts, petroglyphs, monoliths, and stone-lined areas that show evidence of occupation which may date from the year 1000-1100ad, to the beginning of the 15TH century. This spirited and mystical museum-park is said to be one of the most important Taino-Culture archeological sites in the antilles today. The Batey Zipline Adventure Park, is another way to explore nature while experiencing a day full of adventure like hiking, rappelling, underground river caves or horseback ridding. Besides the Caonillas Lake, Utuado also features the Dos Bocas Lake. As you reach the main dock (embarcadero), you may choose a free scenic boat ride that will take you to the restaurants and enjoy the delicious puerto rican cuisin. Puerto Rico is also famous for its coffee, so we suggest a visit to Hacienda San Pedro, a coffee plantation in the nearby town of Jayuya. And of course, in Utuado you will find supermarkets, pharmacies, gas station, bakeries, banks and other business location for your convenience.
Once you book a rental in Casa Lago you will receive by e-mail a more complete information guide of "Things to Do" or places to visit including addresses, phone numbers and websites; as well as easy indications to follow, that will lead you as you drive all the way to the lake house. ( We are located on road #140, Km. 26.9, Caonillas, Utuado, PR).
* NO VISITORS allowed!!! ** Check-in at 3:00pm & Check-out at 11:00am. *** ( Please note that the Use of life vests is required while kayaking). Most of our lakes, including the Caonillas Lake, are man made projects that are very deep and may have steep shores and rocks. Therefore, enjoying the lake will be at the guest's own risk and must sign a release and wear a life vest (we supply). Children must be under the supervision of an adult at all time. Since the lake has steep shores and rocks in the bottom, diving in to the lake is something we do not encourage our guest's to do, for their own safety!

Lovely lake home in PR mountains, a great getaway for peace & nature, away from urban chaos. Host Pedro was very helpful & excellent in responding. Home was clean & plenty of hangout spots: upper deck, lower lounge, tiki hut & small dock access to lake. You will destress hete!
Enjoyed stay, private and secluded location for those that don’t mind being in the mountainside away from crowds. Be prepared to drive through twists and turns to get to restaurants and local markets, can be very tricky, especially at night. You will need GPS wherever you go if not familiar with area. Entrance to VRBO should be more visible, missed it a few times because sign was not visible.(Need more lighting) Plenty of room for small group. I suggest you do some grocery shopping before going up there. All in all, a nice place to stay.
Beautiful place and setting. Huge space for our family of 5. Everything we needed. Lots of extra features and areas with the property that makes this a truly unique stay. Highly recommend, would define come back and stay longer.
This property was was everything I was hoping for: beautiful view, lovely house, gorgeous grounds. Also, there is so much more if you were looking for a place to entertain outdoors.
The property itself is good but the beds was a little too hard and uncomfortable to us is about 18 minute drive to town and the roads are rough but ain’t nothing that owner can do about that the fishing at the lake was great we had a lot of fun at the house playing darts/pool and grilling outside is a really quiet and peaceful place and the big hammock in the porch is a plus thank you for hosting us Pedro it was a great experience to our family

You'll Miss it When You Leave
Our family stayed in this beautiful lake house for one weekend during our summer vacation in P.R. What a lovely home! You won't want to leave. My Facebook friends continue complementing the images and asking where it's at.
If I'm ever in Utuado again, this is where we're staying. As a bonus, the family that owns it is incredibly kind and helpful. They go out of their way to get what you need to make your stay a comfortable one.

Hidden Paradise Retreat
The lake house was the perfect spot to reconnect with each other and find peace and tranquility. The views of the lake were amazing while swaying in the hammock on the nice upper deck. The lake house welcomed us decorated for the holiday season and it was just beautiful. We will recommend this paradise to our friends and we will surely come back to stay in our next vacation. We enjoyed of the typical dishes offered on many restaurants along the path to our peace of paradise. The host was friendly and caring. Awesome experience!
It was an amazing place. Its calming relaxing and you can reset from the cahotic life. The owner was amazing and caring. He was very attentive. I lived having coffee putside on the mornings. If course loved hearing the coqui at night. Follow his instruction to the address not GPS his are direct, GPS got us lost.

A wonderfull experience.
Most definitely a vacation to remember and a place to recommend to friends and family. Upon our arrival a professional and courteous owner greeted us and opened his beautiful home to my family and immediately we were enchanted by the place. This home has a magical ambiance where you blend with the gorgeous mountains scenario and really appreciate peacefulness. If you have the desire for a vacation of serenity and tranquility this is the place. The lake offers fun activities such as paddle boarding and kayaking or you can also hike or visit near by attractions but nothing beats being in complete relaxing mode enjoying nature and a great time with the family. I shall return!

Awesome stay
First I want to say that Pedro is a great host. When we arrived he was there to great us, showed us all we needed to know about the home. Even gave us a bottle of wine since we forgot to buy some. He even had his handyman bring us a freshly caught fish for dinner one eve.
As far as the home itself, the pictures are nice but do not compare to the beauty of the home and area. We had planned so many local activities and found ourselves not really wanting to leave. But I was at least able to get my work out by cayaking.
We recommend this home to everybody.

The Perfect Casa de Campo!
This was the perfect house in the mountains. The house is even better than the pictures. It is beautifully decorated and very clean. It has all the amenities you need and more for a peaceful and relaxing vacation. From the kayaks, fishing pier and the outdoor grill / seating area to the hammocks where you can take multiple naps. It was perfect! The owner was super nice and very helpful. We originally had plans to explore the area more but once we got to the property, we decided to spend more time there. We were able to go to the grocery store, which is like a 15-20 minute drive and then cook in the house. We did go to the Lake view restaurant, which is within walking distance and the food was delicious! Definetely recommend this property if you would like to experience the mountain life in PR.
Incredible experience that will never be forgotten!
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon along with his brother and his brothers wife. This property is absolutely amazing! Nestled deep in the mountains of Utuado, perched on the shore of lago Caonillas; amazing views, beautiful music played by the wildlife, and surrounded by the most generous and kind people. My brother-in-law has a YouTube channel and included several videos on the property, fishing, local attractions, and amazing people. From Pedro’s awesome communication, we knew where to find many points of interest. His home is gorgeous and peaceful; exactly what we were wanting. We highly recommend Café Gran Batey, ran by the sweetest couple. There are many nearby waterfalls, caves, and interesting attractions. Still rebuilding many roadways and homes decimated by hurricane Maria, some roads can be tight and even rerouted. That being said, you are sure to have an amazing adventurous time visiting!

Absolutely Beautiful
Everything was as advertised. Plenty of space for the 4 of us. There was no need for air conditioning with the fans during the day and opened windows at night. The guys fished every day before or after our outings and had a great time. Be prepared for winding crazy roads with dogs, chickens, parked cars around every corner. We didn't have cell service at Casa Lago (but I noticed that Pedro did, he had At&t), and I was perfectly OK with that. Be sure to have a good map because GPS didn't always get us where we wanted to go. Pedro has a drawer full of tourist ideas but I fear we wore out his map. This was by far the best rental we have had and top 2 for vacations. We will definitely return to Puerto Rico again and will stay at Casa Lago. Thank you Pedro for sharing your beautiful Lake House with us.

Far away from life in the suburbs
Wow! Words don't do justice to describe what staying at Casa Lago meant for us. From the moment Pedro, our very gracious host, opened the gate to his property, we knew we were in for a very special stay. The love and work that Pedro has put in restoring the house after hurricane Maria is evident everywhere. The gardens are beautiful, and there are so many places to sit and relax, from the main floor terrace, to the ground level terrace, to the gazebo, to the fire pit seating, to the chairs by the lake. Everywhere you look, inside and outside the house, you see greenery and beauty. The place has a way of engaging all of your senses in ways that you may not have experienced before. Nights in particular are truly remarkable, with the cacophony of insects, frogs and birds making you feel like you are sleeping in the middle of the jungle. We tried to take advantage of everything the property offers - we prepared most of our meals in the well equipped kitchen, grilled in the charcoal BBQ, ate dinner at the gazebo, played dominoes in the downstairs terrace, and laid in the hammocks in the terrace and the gazebo. We also used the provided kayaks and went kayaking in the lake. Everyone in our party, from 92 yr old granpa, to our 11 yr. old son, had a great time. Even losing power for most of one day did not take away from our enjoyment of this enchanted place.
Pedro is an outstanding host. He was very responsive during our entire stay, and worked very hard to minimize the impact of the power outage on us. Our only regret was having to leave, but we left with wonderful memories, and a strong desire to return soon.

A perfect stay in the "Heart of Puerto Rico's countryside"
A Lake House Retreat in the Mountains is a perfect rendition of what is like to live in the "Heart of Puerto Rico's countryside". A peaceful and quiet stay in a beautiful house by the Caonilla lake in the town of Utuado, PR. The "House" that includes terraces throughout the property offers alternatives to do, or not do, as you wish. Bedrooms and baths are in great conditions and grounds are very well kept. The kitchen is equipped with the necessary tools and some. The lakeside view terrace with the BBQ offers an "outdoor" cooking alternative. If cooking is not your in your agenda you will find in just a three minute walk a local "chinchorro" where you can taste local fare or five minutes away Lakeview Restaurant that offers an ample view of the lake and its dam and a varied local great tasting menu. The towns of Utuado and Jayuya are at a 30 to 35 minute drive where you can find other eating alternatives. Although we didn't use the kayaks, they were ready for use including the necessary floating vests and fishing rods...the lake is known as an excellent fishing spot. Service wise, Mr. Pedro Velez, owner, gave a very thorough explanation of the facility and its amenities with follow-up calls to make sure we were comfortable and if we needed any assistance. Temperature during our stay was very comfortable, in the 70's in the morning and nights and in the 80's at noon ....(went down into the 60's late at night early dawn) no air conditioner is needed and sufficient ceiling fans are available if temperatures so required. We had friends with us and all agreed that they would return for another stay.
On a heritage trip with my mom, who is of Puerto Rican decent but never visited the island. Utuado area is where her grandma grew up & Pedro’s home made us totally feel at home! It’s a pure slice of heaven & a place I would absolutely love to stay at again! It’s a bigger home than we expected, the family room has a door on it, as well as an on-suite bathroom if you wanted someone to sleep there too. Plenty of space to cook, multiple kitchens indoor and out. Lots of things to do around the house: kayaks, yard games, etc. I absolutely loved the gazebo/boat house for hanging out. There was no wifi, but that was ok because we wanted to disconnect! Pedro kindly gave us access to his dad’s dock for the kayaks because the lake levels were low. Just an FYI to travelers of the Utuado area, we stayed mid-week and a lot of the restaurants I had wanted to check out were only open on the weekends, so if I go back, I’d love to stay longer through a weekend.
Fue una experiencia fabulosa, estar en contacto con la naturaleza y no pensar en trabajo o covid, un lugar extraordinario. Todo limpio y con mucho gusto, area de bbq y terraza, super. Definitivamente recomendado
Property is wonderful. The home is beautiful but needs some maintenance. ( closet doors and downstairs bathroom door ) some patio furniture in bad condition.
Nice property very clean and well maintained. Very private. Great host. Always available if you have any doubts and concerns. If you want to get away from everything and relax around nature, with a beautiful lake as your backyard, this is the place. Nice lake just to enjoy the view, kayak or go fishing. We had a great time
