"Staff are all excellent. They try very hard. Nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is extremely dated and needing refurbished. Other than that the cleanliness was its biggest let down. We walked into our room to a pair of dirty socks on the floor. I didn’t complain just put them in the bin. The room curtains were caked with dust and closed on our arrival. Opened them the next morning to realise the windows are all growing mould alone the seals. It’s unpleasant. The beds themselves appeared clean and were comfortable. "

"I visit this hotel often for solo breaks to de-stress and relax. As I spend a lot of time in the room itself, I opt for the family room as it is more spacious and situated better for more light and nicer outlook from the windows. The check in staff are lovely. One receptionist in particular who recognises me from previous visits is very friendly, she is extra helpful and chats with me if she is free to, answering any queries I have and making me feel at ease and welcome. I make good use of the gym and pool area, which is equipped with a sauna and steam room. Changing rooms and showers are adequate and you are provided with robe and slippers in the room which I use both while in, or walking to/from the spa area. I have never opted for any treatments, but these are available at extra costs. I do not find the gym and pool staff to be as friendly as the reception or house-keeping team. Sometimes I feel a little awkward and they are busy talking amongst themselves or do not go out their way to explain anything they would be helpful to know. I always have to ask about certain things. The hotel itself isn’t the most modern, although clean and comfortable and the bathrooms are up to date. I prefer this over modernised, minimalistic hotels. I feel more comfortable here as it has a real ‘classic hotel vibe’ which personally makes it more appealing than the modern style, busy hotels with small, barely decorated rooms and where staff are never seen. I really like it here. "

"The doors to the rooms make the most horrendous noise when being closed. Never experienced such loud banging all day and night. The cleaners are also shouting up the corridors until around 5pm I got very little rest in this place. The car park needs a zebra crossing to safely get you across to your car. Water in the room would be a nice touch for a Hilton. "

"So, the good stuff first. Price is fantastic value. Location is ideal, just off the M74\. Room was warm, quiet and clean. Bed was great. Now the real let-down. The smell of dope on the first floor would have knocked you out, despite the ‘No Smoking’ signs on all the doors. I reported it to reception. It was clear to me which was the offending room and I invited the staff to take a stroll past. Not sure if they did or not but the smell was still there the next morning when I left. You wouldn’t need to have been Miss Marple to track down the offender. Apart from the smell it was a clear fire hazard. I’m due back in Scotland soon and would love to stay again. But that has made me hesitate. "
