Villa Gelsomini is a charming family home only 5 miles from fairy-tale Todi and just a little over an hour’s drive from Rome airport. Set on the very edge of the tiny hamlet of Fiore. There are two restaurants only 4KM away and another 6KM from the house. It is possible to request meals cooked at the villa during your stay. Villa Gelsomini is a little over 100 years old, set in a garden of mature olive trees. The villa has been newly refurbished in good taste, using traditional Umbrian materials. There's a pretty suite at one end of the lower floor accommodation. By simply closing the door in the corridor, those who occasionally need a quiet retreat, will be delighted with the comfort and privacy offered by their very own sitting room with dining area and kitchen. There are three kitchens in total at Villa Gelsomini, so even a large group will never feel under pressure when it's time for a cup of tea. There are endless wonderful sights to be seen from your villa. Orvieto, with its cathedral as fancy as a tiered wedding cake, its fascinating Etruscan museum, glorious art and wine cellars offering some of Umbria’s best wines is a must. Perugia is Umbria’s capital city and bursts with fine art, enticing shops and handsomely sophisticated bars. Both Orvieto and Perugia are within an hour’s drive. Assisi (twinned with Jerusalem) is about the same distance and is another absolute must for your sightseeing list! Saint Francis rests in the beautiful cathedral of this important hill town. Pilgrims from the entire world drop by to pray for peace in this imposing, but nevertheless homely feeling place. The splendid frescoes of Giotto and the three dimensional marquetry on the choir stalls are well worth seeing for those who have no wish to pray but who will still enjoy marvelling at the soaring arches and cerulian blue ceilings decorated with golden stars. The southern Umbrian towns of Spoleto, Amelia and Narni all make happy, easy day trips too. In short, Villa Gelsomini is the perfect spot to chill in beautiful surroundings - and it’s also the perfect base to explore Umbria, land of mystic saints, medieval hill towns, glorious wines, stunning art and warmly welcoming Italian charm. We were there with all our family, 14 people, to celebrate our silver wedding. The pool was lovely if in need of updating, but that's a small gripe. The outside dining area was lovely with splendid views of the surrounding hills. The pool was a blessing in the hot weather. The air conditioning was wonderful on the hottest days. Every bedroom had a bathroom. Linen was super clean and towels were changed weekly. Mila was the Most wonderful liaison, giving us wonderful tips and guidance. The kitchens and fridges were great for keeping all the groceries fresh. Would recommend this wonderful place for amazing local scenery and access to Todi. From 12 years old to 75 everyone loved our time at the Villa. 13 people were well accommodated. The highlight is the pool, that we thoroughly enjoyed, towels were sufficiently provided. The location is half an hour away from restaurants and/or supermarkets. The surrounding is quite hilly, but wonderful to enjoy. The 2 main issues we enocuntered was that there was a huge amount of ants outside of the house, and made it also inside the house, even though Mila helped a lot of trying to prevent that. We had daily trouble in nearly all the rooms due to the cracks in the floors and walls, where the insects came through. The second issue was the amounts of wasps (we had three nests on the property), which was suboptimal for little kids and baby for us. ##### Carsten B. We were a total of 9 with varying needs and our stay in Todi checked all the boxes. We loved exploring Todi (highly recommend dining at Enoteca Oberdan!), Assisi, and Civita. Some in our group also did a day trip to Rome via the Terri train station (approximately 35 minutes away). Séjour de 14 nuits en août 2021 ### 8/10 – Bien #### John B. 11 août 2019 Points forts : Propreté #### Quite peaceful villa with stunning views We recently stayed in this lovely villa in beautiful surroundings. We are a family of 13 with a small baby. The villa has 3 bedrooms upstairs with access only from outside steps and 4 bedrooms downstairs with 2 kitchens. The villa was very clean, we stayed for 2 weeks we had cleaners on the Wednesdays with change of towels and a clean the middle Saturday with a change of bedding and towels. The pool was large and a short walk downhill from the villa, it was clean and not deep at all very good for children. The pictures online do need updating as they do not reflect some of the furniture had changed, kitchen fridges had changed, the pictures do not show the villa has air conditioning. The tables outside we had to move from each patio to make a table large enough for all of us to eat around and there is not enough outside furniture to comfortably sit on in the evening we had to bring out the sofas in the lounge. The jacuzzi bath did not work which was a shame but it was so hot we just used the shower, which were all powerful with plenty of hot water for several showers being able to be on at the same time. The biggest problem we had was the electrics for such a large villa being able to accommodate a large family if we had the cooker on we could not put a hairdryer on or the kettle as they would blow and had to walk up the road to next doors gate to reset the trip, in the information book it stated that as with many villas in the area the electric has a limit of 3kw.....The cot for the baby was very good and bedding was provided we did have to ask for a better highchair as there was only a very old wooden one which was not particularly safe, but Laura did bring us a new one later that day. ##### John B.
