The grounds were kept immaculate, the interior of the condo was very clean and nicely decorated in light colors, and there were bicycles, beach toys, chairs, umbrellas, coolers, and all things to make going to the beach for the day a pleasant outing. We also appreciated that there was a safe on the premises. Please be aware that there is a spiral staircase to the second floor with very good hand bars, which may be a challenge for some; we found it perfectly comfortable. One thing to note is that there is not a door between the master bedroom and its en-suite bathroom, which made using the toilet slightly uncomfortable for a person with modesty. The cooking pans were also a bit worn, and there were only 4 coffee cups (which is challenging if you have 5 or 6 people staying). There were plenty of other dishes, and good storage containers for leftovers. We definitely enjoyed it as a comfortable launching place for our daily adventures along the coast, and would stay there again for its convenience, good amenities, and responsiveness and friendliness of the staff. ##### Alison J. We had to wait outside in tbe rain with out 6 month old. Once we were able to access our property and room, nothing was prepared for us. The pool wasnt turned on, the cushions by the pool was so dirty and not in place, there was no towls or toilet paper in our place. As soon as they arrived they told us they would come back soon to finish cleaning the inside, which we declined because we had just arrived and wanted to enjoy our space not have workers in there doing the job that should have been done prior to us arriving. We were promised a high chair and play pen and neither were ready for us, they arrived much later into the evening. Disappointing stay. They promised me a night refund for our troubles and I never received that either. ##### mia m. Recommend getting car as ither places arw not walking distance. Unit is comfortable and well air conditioned. The beds were not great, though. And we had to use the pull out couch in the livibgroom which wasnt very comfortable. Only other issues is that jacuzzi does not get heated, even though advertised as useable. A nighttime drive in a rental car from Liberia airport and an adventurous ride down Monkey Trail (avoid at all costs!), we were relieved when we walked through the secure front gate to Stef Surf property. Our own gorgeous paradise! Immaculately clean and thankful for the A/C units! Weather is quite humid but our unit was not. El Toucan unit was on the end and I would say the most private of all 4 units. Grounds were also immaculate and the maintenance and landscaping staff were hard working but also attentive to guests staying there. The rooms were spacious with great outdoor patios to sit and enjoy the scenery. We had options of the pool with beautiful tropical scenery at the villa or a short walk to the beach. The villa is located just a couple of blocks away from several great places to eat. There is also a small store located even closer that we bought some groceries to cook. Our trip was made even more enjoyable with the help from our host Tony Gonzalez. This was our first trip to Costa Rica. He met us the first day and was always available through Whatsapp. I don't think we could have asked for a better host. The food was great everywhere. My favorite meals were probably lunch at Coco Loco (Mar y Sol ) and breakfast at the Surf Box (La Mexicana). That said, we ate at The Shack several times and other places. With four units connected like duplexes, a shared pool creates a serene atmosphere. The friendly groundskeeper and his assistant are always ready to assist. The road leading to the property is unpaved, so caution is advised. The beach is a short walk away–turn left, then right, then left again, and you're there. The dark sand may stick to you, but it's soft. We had the beach to ourselves most days. Not the greatest beach. The unit could use some updates, kitchen sink hardware is loose and the stove vent goes nowhere. The fridge is in good condition, but shelves are missing on the inside of the door. Bedrooms and bathrooms are well-appointed, and towels are plentiful. Our host, Tony, was exceptional. He promptly responded to our questions and offered suggestions through WhatsApp. Overall, the property provided a comfortable stay for our family. With its amenities and proximity to stunning beaches, it made for an unforgettable vacation. ##### Amy W. I cannot begin to express just how incredible our stay at Stef Surf El Tucan was! From the moment we stepped foot into this lush, tropical oasis, we knew we were in for a treat. The attention to detail and high-end furnishings in El Tucan left us feeling like we were staying in a luxury resort, yet with the added benefit of complete privacy. Each evening, we eagerly made our way to the beach, a short 3 minute walk, to witness the mesmerizing colours of the setting sun painting the sky in hues of gold and pink. It was truly a magical experience. The unit itself is thoughtfully designed with beautiful outdoor spaces that allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the sights and sounds of the surrounding nature. The master bedroom was a peaceful haven, with the gentle sound of waves breaking on the beach and bird signing. My sleep in the primary room was incredible. The cozy living and dining area, hammocks and daybeds, and the refreshing pool with a jacuzzi all contributed to making our stay exceptionally comfortable and enjoyable. We were provided with everything we needed for our stay, from beach chairs and umbrellas to comfortable linens and a well stocked kitchen – they really thought of everything! I must mention the caring and attentive caretaker, Francisco, who is truly wonderful. Stef Surf El Tucan has set the bar high for future vacation rentals and we will be dreaming about it until our return! If you're seeking an unforgettable getaway, look no further! ##### Evelyne C. The spiral staircase was a tad intimidating at first, but we managed just fine. The kitchen had all of the utensils and dishes that we needed. The beach is a short walk away as are a grocery store and restaurants (go to Chillaxing - food is amazing and Victor and Gavin are welcoming). The mattress in the second bedroom could use an upgrade - I added padding to it using an extra mattress pad and other linen, as we found it uncomfortable for our old tired bones. The grounds keepers were pleasant and took great care of the lush vegetation and pool area. Warning: we didn't receive the check-in information until less than 24 hours prior to check-in, which was causing us some concern - but everything worked out great - so don't panic. ##### Carol K. The condo was beautiful and had everything we needed for a one week stay. The caretakers, Francisco and his wife, were incredible - they were friendly and always had a smile for our family. We came to look forward to our daily interactions with them because they were a joy to be around. The house is a 5 minute walk to Potrero beach, of all the beaches we visited this one was our favorite. My kids enjoyed looking for shells and the milder waves. The sunsets were incredible each night. It was also less crowded than the other nearby beaches. We would definitely recommend staying here and will do so ourselves! ##### Thanh M. High praise for the caretakers, Francisco and Marlin - they made us welcome, comfortable and nothing was too much trouble - they even put up with my very poor Spanish attempts with great humour and patience. Gorgeous tropical gardens lead you to the villa with many birds and a few iguanas hidden away. The pool was very zen-like and with only 4 villas sharing, we usually had it to ourselves. We had friends join us during our stay and really appreciated all four of the private outdoor spaces for some down time during the hottest part of the day. The villa has a very well-equipped kitchen, comfortable seating everywhere and very comfortable beds. The master bedroom is spectacular with the 14 foot windows overlooking the gardens and pool area and the balcony was a great place to birdwatch early in the morning. Just a heads-up for anyone with mobility issues - there is no bathroom on the main floor and one of our friends found the circular staircase a bit of a challenge - especially at night. We loved the town of Petrero - the restaurants, little grocery stores and a couple of beach bars all within walking distance. We felt very comfortable walking everywhere and found the local people very friendly and helpful. Playa Petrero may not be the prettiest beach around but we loved it - a three minute walk away meant many morning coffees and sunset cocktails were spent on the beach, watching the local fishermen, the hundreds of pelicans, as well as a huge variety of other birds cruising up and down the sand. It's a great walking beach especially when the tide is out! Our villa very conveniently had some great beach chairs that we could throw on our backs for the brief walk to the beach - much, much appreciated! We loved visiting many of the other beaches nearby - our favorites were Pesca, Danta, and Dantita which were all very lovely as well as quiet. Conchal and Tamarindo were also great - just busier and had quite a few vendors coming by. Bottom line - I look forward to visiting again soon! ##### Carole J. When we got to stef surf it was exactly what I imagined. Francisco the caretaker of stef surf was a very kind man who made sure everything was in working order. Lis the concierge set up a private dinner for us the 1st night we came in. It was simply delicious and worth it!! We ended up going to a to all the local beaches, Potrero, Penca, Prieta, Danta, and Sugar beach. All the beaches were great and perfect for anyone. Sugar beach hotel for lunch is a must! Best chicken tacos!! Congo zip line rocked!! Wife and I were the only ones at the park. Palo verde tour was fun seeing crocs, monkeys, and a variety of birds.Restaurants... las brisas was great! Mow the owner was a cool dude who took care of us. Surf box for breakfast! Natasha the owner chatted with us about the local beaches and life. Challah French toast is a must. I would highly recommend ending ending your vacation with a sunset cruise with serendipity charters. Hands down the best cruise you will ever go on!
