Thank you for staying with us at the Surf Ranch. There is only one reception/manager, and one cleaning lady, working hours are around 9am - 5pm. Our restaurant attached is open 8am - 8pm, and they can assist you with anything you may need. The rooms have many commodities, thank you for staying with us.

Our experience at this Tamarindo hotel was deeply unsatisfactory. Despite a 10-night booking, we felt compelled to leave after just 3 days due to persistent issues. Despite management's responses to previous reviews claiming resolution, I can confidently assert that the problems persist. 1. The lack of a consistent front desk presence was a significant inconvenience, with management often unreachable except for brief appearances at the hotel's café between 8 am – 3 PM. 2. Water cut off during my shower, reaching out to management, it took hours for a response, which informed us that we needed to wait for the water tank to refill! 3. On day 2, water turned an alarming shade of brown due to filtration issues, highlighting maintenance concerns. 4. Our room's proximity to the laundry and pump room resulted in incessant noise from the pump. Promises of a room change were made but not honored, revealing management's lack of transparency. 5. Air conditioning remote control was dysfunctional, limiting our ability to regulate the temperature. 6. On the first night, our blanket fell to the ground, I requested for a replacement from the maid, whom we tipped. However, upon reaching out to Expedia to express our grievances, we were shocked to receive a response from the hotel accusing us of rudeness and causing disturbances. Tamarindo is undoubtedly an expensive tourist destination. However, it's essential to recognize that cheap rate=cheap service.

Hello Esmail, allow us to express our version of your stay, as well as to alert the hotel group about your visit. You demanded transportation from the airport that you supposedly had paid for in advance, which was completely false. You had airport staff called to our hotel, who understood that you were mistaken and invited you to leave the premises and look for a taxi on your own. This evidently upset you, and you arrived in a bad mood to proceed with the check-in. You booked a room with twin beds but decided to move all the furniture in the room to join the beds together, rearranging everything in the room without permission and deciding to throw the individual sheets on the floor of the laundry room, where access is only for hotel staff, claiming that you wanted queen-sized sheets since you had joined the beds. This dismayed our housekeeper, as she is not allowed to change sheets that do not match the prearranged bed sizes, causing you even more dissatisfaction. For breakfast, you always had a complaint; the air conditioning was improperly set according to you. We sent our maintenance person, and everything was found to be in perfect condition. After observing your behavior for two days and when a queen room became available, we agreed to move you to another room, but you did not respond to our message and made no change. Therefore, as you can see, the airport staff, the cleaning staff, the maintenance staff, the restaurant staff, and I, as the manager, were always available to help. However, as you rightly mention, sometimes the low prices lead us to have guests who are equally "cheap" in terms of education and appropriate behavior towards others.

Did not have T.V. per representation when I booked. Chair at desk was broken and couldn't use. Baseboard rotting out, shower head blew off, curtain to shower 2" too short; floors slick as snot and no towel to lay on floor. No working t.v. and kept being told "a few hours, tomorrow, etc.' Signed in on sheet in spanish with policy; english was available and placed in room after check in stating one rule 'no refunds, for any reason'. I'd never sign something like that. Any reasons??

The floors in your room appeared shiny upon your arrival because they were freshly cleaned, a testament to our commitment to cleanliness and guest satisfaction. Each room is equipped with two towels, provided for your convenience. Regarding the TV, it appears there was a misunderstanding. Our rooms are equipped with TVs, and the controls are located on the unit itself for easy access. We've ensured that signage in our facilities, including the one in your room, is also available in English to assist all our guests better. The check-in form, which includes all our hotel policies, is part of our self-check-in process to ensure you are well informed during your stay.Your comfort and satisfaction are paramount to us, and we are committed to providing an environment that meets your expectations. Overall we had a positive experience staying at Surf ranch. The hotel is located in a great spot and is close to the beach and all the shops and restaurants. The breakfast was decent and the room was clean. What we were not happy about was the very slow WiFi and how dark our room was. We were located at the first floor and people were hanging out outside of our room till late and we could literally hear everything.

Thank you for staying with us at Surf Ranch Tamarindo. The TV remotes have batteries, I am glad we could get that solved asap. For the water, you do have water, there was an issue for a few days during dry season, where the city water ran low. We are working on a solution. It seems that this issue only happens in 1 room, on random days. We are currently working on it / have already fixed it. Thank you.

Great little place to stay for the price. They have ac in the rooms and shampoo/ conditioner. Across the street from the beach and food options everywhere. Walking distance to shops, food, excursions, ect. The staff is very nice. The only issue for me was the doors and thin walls. Even when you tried to close the door softly, the Latches are metal and loud. There was a night that next door had a party until 4am. When people came back to their rooms...it was like door slam city. I was so disruptive at 4am when i was kept up all night from the party. Then i had to listen to all the drunk people stumbling around up stairs and slamming doors. I guess if you are there to party it's fine...but I was on relax vacay and it wasnt good.

The hotel is extremely basic, very low water pressure, hard too shower but did the job, rooms are very very basic, no micro wave or coffee maker but fresh coffee is available from 8am-10am an they have a small fridge in the room The best part of this hotel was cost 70$ per nite and when you walk out you only have to cross the street and you’re on the beach. Staff are very friendly and helpful when available… But be aware that staff are not always available and are gone by 2-3pm an sometimes even earlier, and you must make sure to contact hotel by email days before arrival to know how to get into room for check in when staff have left

After your reservation, you receive an email with the check in instructions for the code to get the key from the keybox to your room. Our reception is closed sundays and staffed from 9am - 3pm. However remember we are an automated hotel so you do not need human contact. All systems in place for this.

Fantastic spot. The gal who owns it was wonderful. Outdoor shower and coffee were a nice bonus. They have laundry service too which was awesome to get a refresh on clothes. Definitely recommend!

The worst place to stay in Tamarindo
It was the worst stay and this place is not a hotel. It is either a Cabina or Hostel but not a hotel. Little or no amenities. No hot water, no blow dryer, hand cream and no parking nor any arrangement to help guests with vehicles. This place should not be listed on Hotels.com as a Hotel. Very misleading information. No parking should be identified very clear when making reservations. Not a small writing lower down where this very big detail can be overlooked. I left one day early as I COULD NOT SLEEP as my vehicle was parked in an unsecured area outside.

We are a 9 room hotel located on the main road across from the main surf break and beach, walking distance to all.2. The rooms do have hot water, blow dryers (not your room because it is brand new, and the blowdryers will be added soon). No, we do not have hand cream, only soap, shampoo and conditioner.3. On all of our websites we have NO PARKING, everywhere. We do not have private parking, but there are many free public parking spots in front and around the hotel and no guests have had any issues in the 4 years we have been open. It is very safe, security, with security cameras and 24/7 security guards at other establishments next and in front of us.It seems like the issues you had at hand, such as the parking spot, where not real issues, but issues created within your mind. We offer a great service that our guests have come to know and love.

They refused to clean our rooms because of Covid, but other Hotels and Hostels were doing daily cleaning. This made our rooms filthy because the sand is easily tracked into every room. The bed sheets would get sandy and no sheets would be replaced even if we asked to do it ourselves. Also you are not supposed to flush toilet paper and they only provided a very small garbage that filled up each day. We would have to empty it daily ourselves. The manager did not smile at us even once during our 10 nights. Pura Vida:)

Joel & Jody Balmer Thank you for staying with us for 10 nights. I never heard any complaints from your group until now. I asked our team what happened and this is what they told me. They mentioned that you guys destroyed the rooms, 2 duvet covers destroyed as well. For long term stays we do a full clean every 3 days, and every day we always do a quick clean. We can not be washing the duvets daily when occupying a room. Only before and after check out as well as every 3 days if you have a long term stay. Also they mentioned you had an extra person staying with you, which is not allowed, but we gave you that free, as well as we did not charge you for the damages. The rooms are meant for 2 people, and if you have 3, it can get messy quite quickly. Yes, in Costa Rica by the beach, it is common practice not to flush toilet paper down the toilet as it clogs the system. Thank you.

Upon our arrival we noticed our room was not cleaned properly, especially the floor which was filthy. After 10 days the floor was never washed (it’s extremely dusty there) and our sheets were not changed once - the bed wasn’t even made once. They advertised they had Netflix which don’t. They advertised they had a safe - they don’t. They property is not managed so you on your own. The property has zero security, no lock on the entry gate. The property across Witches Rock has a 24 hour security guard as to most properties there. It’s unsafe in a dark part of town and literally anyone can come in any time. We were there 10 days and saw the receptionist there twice. The property has no management and you’re on your own after 4pm. Would not stay again as there are better options across the street with 24 hr security. Stay away.

At the time of the check in , you asked if breakfast was included in your rate, which was answered by the receptionist that it was not . 5 minutes after entering the room you decide to ask for cleaning again, the room was perfectly clean, you decided to check under the bed and the receptionist kindly helped clean the room again .. you requested free breakfast for the inconvenience, it seems a theater play rehearsed in another hotel, unfortunately in our hotel it does not work like this, floor and bathroom cleaning was done every day and towels changed every day too. Netflix is ​​enabled! The receptionist helped you to get connected and you said you didn't have your own account! Each guest connects with their own account and it is the first time a guest claims this situation! About security, the hotel has 6 cameras from the main entrance to the laundry room, in addition to the cameras in the restaurant side, the lighting of the hotel is found from the entrance and to the rooms, the receptionist works 6 days a week from 9 am to 5 pm, and indeed she saw you every day leaving the hotel and coming back again and never received any complaints during the 10 days you were staying.Too bad that the game asking for free stuff didn't work for you this time.

6 Night Horror Show At Surf Ranch Tamarindo C.R.
No water first day, no bigy. Next day we had a rather large cockroach in the room, got rid of it , no bigy. On our 4th night we returned rather late ( 0200 hrs ) to find the lock combination that the Hotel gave us didn’t work. We are 66 years old, we were very tired after a very long day that started at 0800 hrs. We started to panick, as we didn’t have any where to go we had very limited options.

Craig A little over dramatic I must say. These situations were brought to my attention. The water, a pipe broke, and water leaking outside, we managed to get someone to fix within an hour, random things like this do happen, but we solve it instantly. All other guests were in the courtyard, manager explained the situation, everyone was cool with it. The cockroach must of been a one off, but I heard it was outside your door. The lock is changed every 2 weeks for security purposes and our manager informed all guests and upcoming guests, but since you were out for the day, she forgot to tell you and was really apologetic about the situation. But she also told me as she talked to another guest that the other guest arrived to open it as he knew the new code, within about 15 seconds of you arriving. Again, small things made into a big deal that they should not of been made into, we were expecting this review. Cheer up, look at the positives in life. You have a brand new hotel room across from the beach, life is great!

O estabelecimento é limpo e a funcionária que nos atendeu é muito prestativa. Mas na expidia dizia que teria “estacionamento sem manobrista”, mas na verdade não tem estacionamento. O estacionamento é público e na beira da estrada. Escolhemos o hotel justamente pela localização (próximo à praia e já na saída da cidade) e pela existência de estacionamento, pois íamos deixar nossas malas pesadas dentro do carro, mas isso não foi possível. Assim, tivemos justamente o trabalho que não tínhamos programado, pois saímos muito seco no dia seguinte. Além disso, tivemos que cruzar varias vezes a rodovia super movimentada com carro, caminhão e ônibus com todas as malas. Tirando essa surpresa super desagradável o local é limpo e novo. Não espere estacionamento, pois não existe no local.

Yes, we do not have parking, you can park in front of the reception in the 2 spots, or on either side not having to cross street, you can also park across the street, there are around 20 free public parking spots all around and all hotels have security cameras, it is very safe, and everyone shares the same parking. Expedia gives us options to check about parking, and I am sorry they do not offer one that clarifies the exact parking situation. But did you write the review on parking? How did you enjoy the hotel? I heard you had an amazing time, which is what the review should be about :)

Malo, a partir de las 17hs ya no había recepcionista. No hicieron la limpieza de la habitación. Tenia mal olor. Lo único bueno es que esta frente a la playa

Looking for a comfort to sleep at?
This is a little gem across the street from the beach on the main strip in Tamarindo. The receptionist said that they'd been under new management for 2 months when I stayed there March 2019. If you are looking for luxury, this is not your place. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable and great location - this is your spot. The rooms are small but I don't go to the beach to spend time in my room, It was clean, hot water and very comfortable beds. Air conditioner worked great and a nice duvet on the bed. There was a small bar fridge and TV. Desk between the 2 beds with a night light. There is a sitting area. For breakfast we chose off of the menu ... it was delicious. So much in fact that we returned to get lunch from the same place after we'd already checked out. If you're coming to spend time on the beach and want a comfortable, clean place to lay your head at night, I highly recommend this place. I will definitely be booking in here again next time I'm in Tamarindo.
