THE SURROUNDING AREA: The apartment is situated in one of the most fascinating areas of the magical island of Ortigia. Just steps away are Piazza Duomo, the Temple of Apollo, and the Aretusa Fountain. In just a few minutes, you can wander through a maze of charming streets, enriched by stunning Baroque palaces, churches, secret courtyards, shops, restaurants, and bars. At the Marina, located just a few meters from the building, you can rent a boat or take a guided boat tour to enjoy our beautiful sea. Less than a five-minute walk away, you'll find an elegant and well-organised beach club where you can sunbathe and swim in one of the most beautiful areas of Ortigia (Solarium Zefiro Lounge Bar, Via della Marina di Ortigia). A delightful little beach, Calarossa Beach, is about 15 minutes away on foot, or you can reach it by bus, which runs every 10 minutes around the island (bus 110). If you love Sicilian cuisine, the area offers an abundance of restaurants and lovely cafes. For a local experience, you can shop at our colourful daily market, just about three minutes away, where you will find fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and other typical products, all while immersing yourself in a unique folkloric atmosphere. "Suite 18" is conveniently located about 10 minutes by car from the A18 highway, making it an ideal starting point for day trips: Noto (30 minutes), Marzamemi (45 minutes), Vendicari Nature Reserve (40 minutes), Palazzolo (25 minutes), Ragusa, Modica, and Scicli (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes). If you’re a fan of the sea, within 20 minutes by car, you can reach some of the most beautiful seaside areas in Syracuse (Terrauzza, Fontane Bianche, and Arenella). Should you prefer less touristy beaches, I would be happy to recommend my favourite spots. MOVING AROUND: While everything is within a very short walking distance, cycling enthusiasts will find two bicycles available. Additionally, you will find several options for renting scooters or Vespas nearby. You can also organise a ride in an Apecar, a fun three-wheeled vehicle (with driver) that is typical of this area. If you wish to rent a car upon arrival, two car rental agencies are located just a few meters from the apartment. PARKING: Near the apartment, there are several parking alternatives. If you prefer to park free of charge, the nearest free parking area is in Via Riva Forte Gallo (about 4 minutes from the apartment). If you are looking for a car park, the nearest one is Marina Parking (2 euros per h.), a two-minute walk from Suite18; it is a good choice if you need to unload your luggage at the apartment. The Talete parking (Lungomare Elio Vittorini, in Ortigia) and the Molo S. Antonio parking ( via Bengasi / via Rodi, on the mainland) are both about a 5-minute walk from the apartment, and they are much larger (1.50 euros per hour, 15 euros per day). Less than 10 minutes from Suite18, you will also find a private garage, Garage la Mesa (via dei Mergulensi 14). In Ortigia, you can park for free in the spots with white lines. The nearest free parking area is next to Talete Parking. Avoid parking in areas marked with yellow lines for residents; you can park in the blue-lined spots by purchasing a ticket from a tobacconist. CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT Check-in is from 3 PM to 8 PM; check-out is at 10 AM. I will do my best to accommodate your needs whenever possible. I always greet my guests in person and give them a tour of the apartment. Self-check-in is available upon request. There is a lockbox near the entrance, and I will send you detailed instructions before your arrival. Location is great too, close to the centre and all the best restaurants. We had a car with us and initially were concerned about parking, driving and ZTL areas. Everything worked out incredibly smooth. The host registered us for a day of our arrival so we could unload our bags. Afterwards we parked across the st Lucia bridge on the mainland, 10 min walk from the apartment. Very easy and convenient. If we are ever back in this amazing town, the best in Sicily, we would definitely stay there again. OK, I will suggest one small change: The kitchen needs lids for the pots and a spatula. On occasion, we needed Maria Teresa's help, and she was always ready and able to assist. What a sweet efficient host! This location was near the bridges to Syracuse and 4 blocks from a free parking lot beside the elegant "Ortea Palace" Hotel. If you find one of those, hang on tight. We were 2 or 3 blocks from either the open market or the big marina, yet right on the canal separating the island and a few blocks to main Shopping Streets, restaurants, and the two major Piazzas. Nothing is far on this island. You can have coffee out your front door and pizza out your back window. The rooms are quite large, well appointed with elegant high ceilings and everything is totally modern. The lack of a washer and drying is no problem with an inexpensive full-service laundry one block away. There were plenty of English language choices on the TV for the late evening or early morning news. But you are in the best part of Sicily, so why sit in the house? Maria even has a domestic who will spend three hours cleaning the place for a price that is so sinfully inexpensive that you must give her a big tip. ##### Michael D. Ideal for exploring Ortigia and Siracusa on foot and southern Sicily by car. The daily market was a joy and we cooked in the flat as well as eating out in the many excellent restaurants close by. Maria Teresa was very welcoming and gave us lots of helpful suggestions on what to do, see, eat and where. The flat is light, spacious, comfortable, quiet and beautifully decorated. From the little balcony overlooking part of the harbour, where some of the fishing boats moored, there was always something to watch and we were able to eat there on several days. Our apartment was very special and Maria, our host went out of her way to help us. We are in our 70s and traveled alone so her guidance was so appreciated during our one month vacation. Every convenience was provided and the neighborhood had markets, beautiful shops and cafes and a laundry within steps. Weather wise, March is transitional. Some days were cool and rainy and not everything was open but we had the streets to ourselves! We especially enjoyed our terrace with a spritz and our view. The sunsets were spectacular.
