Banner Cottage is located in the popular laid back tiny village of Stockholm, WI and is a 5 minute walk across the park to Lake Pepin's shore. Enjoy the incredible scenery of the Driftless Area where winding roads take you through the bluff country along the banks of the Mississippi River. Villages along the river offer shops to browse, delicious food to sample, and award winning local wines. The space: Built in 1906 as the Country Doctor's home, Banner Cottage retains it's charm yet it's updated, welcoming, and comfortable. It has no central air, but the window a/c are of tlan older style and are very cold and reliable. There is a very active railroad immediately behind the property, however, the noise and vibrations bring me back to my boyhood home and I found it very soothing once we got used to it. Old is fine, our house is old, but it didn't live up to the pictures we carefully went over on the website. We were told that 3 cars or 1 car plus truck and boat could be parked in back. Yes, BUT....it is a one way ally and if you park there, you have to back all the way out. Trains run constantly all night long. Lots of overgrown brush around property. Outside area was just ok, and the patio with the grill and table were very favorable. The rooms were "adequate". Keep in mind that was the best that 4 fishermen could come up with and they aren't very picky. The host was very good about answering any questions and responded immediately on the two emails I sent. We are used to small town, but this town is extra mini small. Went looking for dinner on last night (Wednesday) but no restaurants were open, but they did find a bar that served food, so that was fine. Lots of "local color" at the bar which they found fun. The guys said the house was "ok" and met their needs with 4 separate bedrooms, but that they wouldn't be comfortable endorsing it to anyone else. ##### Jan s. This year we chose the Charming Cottage in Stockholm, Wi. The drive there does not disappoint: hilly and winding road, amid trees, cliffs and beautiful Lake Pepin. The cottage is easy to find, right on main road through Stockholm; very near the many cute shops and eating establishments. The cottage itself is charming, well equipped to host several. We did find areas needing attention; some immediate, some FYI: Pantry light crackles and sizzles when you try to turn it on. Light in refrigerator needs to be replaced. Main floor bathroom bath tub drain is extremely slow. Main floor bathroom floor was very dirty. A shirt and mini sanitary pad was found under the dresser in the main floor bedroom. (Did not belong to us) More or stronger light in dining room. Extra sheets and blankets would have been a plus. What we did appreciate was the number of power strips available-very handy for CPaps and phone chargers. The patio is lovely: it made for a great place to gather with a cup of coffee or cocktail. Would point out to other senior citizens or those with limited mobility that the only access is through the front door with private parking in the rear of the building making loading and unloading luggage, purchases, and supplies a real challenge to get in. To be fair, there is some on street parking right in front of the cottage, but there is no assurance they will be available to occupants. Most rentals have coffee and condiments on hand…there was not enough coffee in the container to make even one pot. There were plenty of pots, pans, dishes, cups, etc provided. Lots of games on the premises too. It would have been helpful to have written out directions for using the TV…this group of senior citizens is not very technically savvy! Pat was very helpful and even stopped to see if we needed the heat turned on as it was turning cool. Cute little town with some interesting shops and restaurants. The trains run frequently during the night on the very nearby railroad tracks and occasionally woke us up…I think we didn’t notice as much after the first night and considered it part of the ambiance! The location is wonderful for exploring Stockholm and we loved the coffee shop right across the street!
