Viola’s Cottage has been newly renovated to include modern conveniences while maintaining original, country charm. Viola's cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway, family trip (children age 10 and under stay free) or travel with friends. The cottage overlooks our family farm and has fabulous views. You will enjoy beautiful, panoramic views of the farm, barn and hayfields. Featuring a large yard, covered porch, a deck, fire pit and covered picnic area. To begin, enjoy the complimentary coffee & tea bar. Relax on the deck, complete with a dining set, covered porch or outdoor picnic area. If you are seeking an escape to the river, it’s only a short hike or drive (0.3 miles) down the hill to river access. Relax in the sun or shade and let the rippling sounds of the river drift your cares away. You may envision casting a line or skipping rocks. Bring your shade cover, lawn chairs and relax on the Meramec river. Inside the cottage, our kitchen/dining room is spacious with gorgeous views of the property. The kitchen contains natural wood cabinets and a full set of stainless-steel appliances, including dishwasher, microwave, toaster, toaster oven & garbage disposal. You will have plenty of counter space to prepare meals & snacks as well as being stocked with what you may need to cook a meal. Outdoor dining is available on the deck or under our covered picnic area, Edison/Bluetooth string lights with speakers provided and charcoal grill. Entertainment provided; Mini cornhole and mini washer games as well as many board and card games. At days end, enjoy your cozy fireplace and settle into your leather couch. Enjoy your favorite movie on the 50” Smart TV with soundbar. As night approaches you will slumber in your spacious bedroom. Bedroom 1 has a Queen bed, Full size Futon, Leather high back chairs with matching glass top table and marble top nightstand. Bedroom 2 has a Queen bed, desk & chair, reading table and two chairs. Bedroom fans provided. Black out shades provide you with the best sleep of your life and ensure you wake up refreshed. Each bedroom is set up for remote working if you require it. It was clean, peaceful, comfortable, close to the river and close to Steeleville. Great attention was paid to all the details to provide everything guests might need during their stay. The bed was really comfortable which is always important to us, the bedding was great, the towels were thick and fluffy, and all the decor was so tasteful. The rooms are spacious and the only negative for us was that there was only one bathroom. We thought about inviting friends to join us but were hesitant because of the one bathroom. It is impossible to name all the things we loved but I will name a few (the little things indoors: like seasonings, ziploc bags, a bottle of wine for our arrival, the cleanliness, seasonings, a crockpot, all things needed to prepare a meal) outdoors: the firewood/pit/ chairs provided, the beauty, the deer, close to the river. The rooms are bigger than the pictures and there is plenty to do! My family had everything we needed and more, they provide so many useful things that you would otherwise forget to pack or have to buy. Peggy and Jon were so sweet, available to answer any questions. The inside was renovated with all modern conveniences and still had a lot of original character left with the house. It was decorated in a country inviting vibe. Conveniently located next to a beach with shallow water for kids to play in and literally a two minute drive to town. What sets this property apart is the fact that you won’t be spending hundreds of extra dollars on impulse buys when you go out to buy the little items here and there that you forgot. If you are on a budget, bring your own food and drink to cook, the host provides everything else. Down to the little things like a match or plastic bag. The place is clean and cute and has everything you could need. Anything we seemed to forget was already there which was nice. The owners of the house were great they always answered any message I sent within 20 minutes or less. Our last night there we even hung out with one of the owners and he is a very fun guy who restocked us with firewood and played some great music and joined us for games to celebrate my birthday. The location was close to town and exactly as described. The place is quiet and I would recommend it for families, couples, and friends, because of the proximity to Steelville, Cuba, and the Meramec River. The bedrooms are spacious and there is a good size closet to hang clothes. The living room had a Smart TV for all your viewing needs. Kitchen was well-equipped and spacious. Very easily could have prepped a family meal. We felt comfortable here and would book this place again. Jon & Peggy’s place is extremely clean, and the furniture was modern and functional. They were very responsive and welcoming. They went above a beyond making us feel at home. Upon arrival, we discovered there was no power. Just as we were about to reach out to the host, Peggy and Jon arrived to let us know that power was out in the area due to high winds. They had provided us with lanterns and flashlights to get us through until the power was restored. They also gave us access to the basement of the house as severe weather was expected. No power also meant a limited supply of water from the well, so we opted to eat dinner at a restaurant in Steelville. We made it back to the house just as a severe storm hit the area. We took refuge in the basement during a brief tornado warning. Once things calmed down, we all went to bed. We woke up to a chilly house still without power, so we headed to Salem for day two of the race. We got notice from our host at about 11:00 AM that the power had been restored. We still had a full day of activities but were extremely happy to hear we would be able take showers once we got back. We didn't get much of a chance to enjoy the amenities of the house due to the storms. However, I will say the the beds were comfortable, and there was an ample supply of towels, washcloths, and hangers which is not always the case with a rental home. The house was clean, nicely decorated, and well stocked. Peggy and Jon were gracious host and went above and beyond to help us ride out the storms. Check in/out was simple. The owners were extremely quick to respond to any questions. It is right in between Cuba and Steelville. We floated thru Birds Nest. They will pick you up at the house and drop you back off too! So for the property, it is beautiful. We sat on the front porch for hours just watching the wildlife and relaxing. The river access is not really walking distance since it is a mile down a gravel hill. I wouldn't want to carry a cooler up and down it. But it is convenient and a very short drive. Nice little spot to swim! The inside is just as it is pictured. It is an old farmhouse, but it is updated and lovely. I love that they have labels on everything in the kitchen and around the house. so much easier to find everything. And they do have everything! The beds were comfy and so were the couches. the kitchen is huge! the only issue we had was the Wi-Fi was pretty slow since you are in the country, so we couldn't watch a movie without buffering.
