The vaulted ceilings throughout and lots of natural light make it feel bright and airy. The home is just a few years old and is tucked away in a quiet marsh-side neighborhood, just minutes away from beautiful Vilano Beach and Historic Downtown St. Augustine. Guest bedrooms are situated in the front of the house, and the primary bedroom and bathroom are located towards the back of the home with private access to the deck. Laminate wood flooring throughout. An eat-in kitchen features an island, granite countertops, white shaker cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and sliders that lead you into the backyard. Enjoy your mornings sipping coffee on the covered front porch and afternoons grilling on the spacious back deck, this is Florida living! Just a 5-minute drive to Vilano Beach, Historic Downtown St. Augustine, and great restaurants like the Floridian, Manatee Cafe, Dos coffee shop, and everything St. Augustine has to offer. The Neighborhood: St. Augustine has the distinction of being the oldest city in the US so there’s history everywhere you look, from the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument to the Mission Nombre De Dios. Combine the area’s rich history with beachcombing and incredible dining and you have a recipe for vacation paradise. The city streets are lined with gorgeous Spanish colonial and Moorish architecture, making it very different from your average beach town. Bring your camera and a pair of good walking shoes! Make sure to spend a day exploring the historic city center by foot, bike, or on the Old Town Trolley. Discover the Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archeological Park, a lush 15-acre park that overlooks the Matanzas River and St. Augustine Inlet with majestic live oaks and even some proud peacocks. After a day of sun-worshiping at the beach, fuel up at Mango Mango’s Bar and Grill with Caribbean-influenced fare and local seafood. They offer daily specials highlighting what’s fresh and an interesting beer menu, just steps away from the ocean. When you’re ready to do some shopping, unearth some unique finds at Antiques and Things in the San Marco shopping district. This eclectic shop carries vintage jewelry, vinyl records, and antique furniture. You never know what you’ll find. This incredible site is a U.S. National Historic Landmark, and the rich history of this place is something that every school should be teaching our youth. 👇🏽 Hidden away in the marshes of St. Augustine is one of the most important sites in American history: the first free community of ex-slaves, founded in 1738 and called Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose or Fort Mose (pronounced Moh-Say). Fort Mose played an extremely important role in the development of colonial North America. 👇🏽 As early as 1687, the Spanish government had begun to offer asylum to slaves who managed to escape from British colonies (the first Underground Railroad ran SOUTH to Florida from the colonies!). In 1693, the Spanish Crown officially proclaimed that runaways would find freedom in Florida, in return for converting to Catholicism and a term for men of four years' military service to the Crown. In effect, Spain created a maroon settlement in Florida as a front-line defense against English attacks from the north. Spain also intended to destabilize the plantation economy of the British colonies by creating a free black community to attract slaves seeking escape and refuge from British slavery. 👇🏽 Fort Mose was the first free African settlement legally sanctioned in what would become the United States and had a total population of about 100. Granite countertops giving a little updated feel. Some issues we brought up included leaking faucet, broken toilet seat, missing front shade pull, moldy back deck chairs, very low quality mismatched dishes, cookware, utensils. They did try to fix the leaking kitchen faucet, but remained an issue. They tried to fix the broken toilet seat by cutting off the end of a branch in the back yard using a kitchen butter knife (and put back into drawer without cleaning) and wedging that branch into the connecting toilet seat which lasted until first use. Quiet location off busy street (that is challenging to make a left turn towards town) and is near water area, with no access or trails.
