I would recommend you ask for a 2nd or 3rd floor. My room on the 1st floor was right on the street with no privacy or natural light unless I opened the shutters. Also, I arrived by taxi at night. As we drove through the surrounding neighbourhood, the "historic" area was more ghetto than I expected from their photos. Many of the older buildings that would have been grand back in the day, are empty, in need of major repair. Certainly the Concha Y Toro had been beautifully restored, renovated! The front desk staff were wonderful, also. I did climb the stairs to their rooftop. The room was clean and adequate. The breakfast was good with a fair number of offerings. They had a tea hour and a wine hour which were quite nice and gave me a chance to converse with other travelers. There is no elevator. I liked this hotel for its charm. Although we arrived a bit early for check-in, the staff kindly let us store our luggage so we could head out and explore the city right away. Andrea, the receptionist, was especially welcoming and went above and beyond. While we filled out our paperwork, she took the time to share helpful tips about what to see in Santiago and how to get there. Her warm and attentive attitude made us feel instantly at home. She even offered us some breakfast upon arrival—an incredibly kind gesture that we truly appreciated. Our room was ready around 1 p.m., but we didn’t return until 3 p.m. since we were enjoying the city. Later that evening, her colleague Jennifer was equally impressive. She helped us plan for the next day and gave us great advice on the weather and what to expect. Like Andrea, she was kind, thoughtful, and attentive—both of them were truly stupendous hosts. In addition, the staff helped us coordinate transportation for both airport pickup and drop-off, which made our travel experience so much smoother and stress-free. Thanks to the exceptional service from Andrea and Jennifer, we would absolutely return to this hotel. Tea time with cake/cookies was at 5.30pm, wine tasting/snacks at 7pm. Unfortunately, the neighborhood is not safe. You have to buzz to enter the hotel. I was a solo traveler and the tour guides told me about the sketchy neighborhood and not to venture out at night. Also, the reception area is on the basement level where the dining area is. It’s open plan with no ceilings. I was on the first floor. So any noise that comes from the reception/dining area (including whenever someone pressed the buzzer) could be heard in my room. The price was right, location excellent, breakfast ample and superb, the staff congenial (and most spoke passable English, which helped out this linguistically challenged Canadian!). I’m on a budget, like most travellers, so the Centropuerto airport shuttle bus, which drops you off a 5 minute walk from the hotel (2,000, or about $3) at Los Heros, was a bonus. They run every few minutes, so waiting isn’t an issue. Just a heads up, the hotel has just opened, so they’re still doing work and whatever I may write now may not be the case down the road. I never really noticed any noise, other than some street noise at night. The hot water took a while to flow but (….see above). On the other hand, everything is new and beautiful and sparkling. There’re plenty of dining, drinking and grocery options nearby, and the downtown area is an easy 10-15 minute - I like walking; it was no issue for me. Check out the nearby museo de la memorial y Los derechos humanos - it’s free entry and gives you some insight into modern Chilean history, the military dictatorship, and the disappeared. Sobering stuff. On a happier note, do get into the mountains; they’re not far and wondrous. As a final observation, I came down with a cold my final days. The staff were super kind, bringing me fresh fruit, pastries, and tea. Awesome people.
