LOCATION: There are plenty of attractions to keep all ages entertained long Sandown seafront. The Pier and glorious Sandown Bay are just a short walk down-hill from the property. Voted one of the island’s best beaches, so why not stretch your legs along the miles of golden sand or swim in the cooling water of the English Channel. The nine-mile stretch between Yaverland and Shanklin, with Sandown nestled in the middle, demonstrates the wonders of geology, with red sandstone through to the white chalk of Culver Cliff. On a lucky day, the remains of fossils can also be found! If you crave an active holiday, the bay is hugely popular with water sports and you’ll be sure to see people paddle boarding, surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing or catamaran and dingy sailing; weather dependent. A short walk towards Yaverland, you will also find the Wild Heart Animal Sanctuary, famous for its big cats. The sanctuary, formerly the Isle of Wight Zoo, gained further recognition due to the owner’s relationship with the naturalist and TV presenter Chris Packman. Additionally, a perfect distraction for the younger guests is Sandham Gardens, which is only minutes’ walk from the esplanade. The company were very communicative, helpful and on hand for any queries i had. One day we had a leaking boiler and within hours it was sorted. It was also very spacious and comfortable. The view from the living room is incredible and the panoramic sea views make it a wonderful place to spend time relaxing. The gate leading to the cliff path is great for local walks and getting to the beach in ten minutes, so the location is great. Overall it’s a beautiful place and I would highly recommend it. The only thing that could have improved our stay is if the garden belonging to the apartment was fully enclosed and fenced off. (it’s hard to see in the pictures) which made it impossible to keep my dog contained. The area beyond the garden is a communal garden with the other residents, and dogs need to be kept on a lead. So although we had hot weather and had the beautiful bifolding doors we had to keep the doors shut at all times to stop our dog wondering into the communal area. It was frustrating to have to put him on a lead every time I wanted to go and sit outside and he couldnt wonder in and out like he does at home. So for that reason I didn’t find it very dog friendly.
