Our charming and natural Eco-Houses are located on the Macal river only 10 min from San Ignacio on the road to the famous Pine-ridge. This listing includes 2 houses for rent (up to 11 guests) . Immersed under huge trees, enjoy the wildlife, pristine views and a secluded river island-beach and swim spot. Our houses are equipped with all the amenities for a cozy and comfortable stay. Alma Del Rio is the winner of the Belize tourism board award for the best small accommodations or the year!! Alma Del Rio is a unique & natural property which includes 2 houses 40' apart- La Alma & Casa Sophia. As you enter through the gate Casa Sophia is the house on the left and La Alma is the house on the right. Casa Sophia is a unique and natural homestay. This 2 story small house is artfully crafted, overlooking the Macal river and forest canopies often visited by Toucans. Walking down a short path, there is a secluded swimming spot on a sandy island. The space: The top floor is a half 'open' room with a river view that serves as a kitchen and lounge area. The bottom floor can be divided into 2 compact private bedrooms separated by heavy wooden doors or made into a 2-bed suite for friends or a family that would enjoy the shared space. Casa Sophia is a 2-story house with rather open railings; babies or toddlers will require supervision when on the top floor. La Alma is surrounded by gorgeous greenery and easily provides the feeling of being in the jungle. This one flat house had 2 separate private bedrooms and a breath taking view of the river from the back screened porch. Perfect space for family and friends to enjoy. Both houses consists of a rain shower, a fully equipped kitchen, laundry, extra bedding upon request, river access, great views, and relaxing in a hammock on your porch. We have taken all the effort to ensure the 2 buildings on the property have maximum privacy. We also accommodate larger groups who can rent the entire compound. We are acknowledged by the Belize tourism board as a 'health and safety gold standard facility'. Our place is a lot located in a small residential stretch ON the pine ridge road, with natural attractions and services close by (driving distance) Our houses are artfully crafted, nested peacefully in the environment. Enjoy our screened lounges with breathtaking views of the river, often visited by many colorful birds. We offer fast WIFI and the perfect view to show off to your colleagues if you are working from afar. We planted a young food forest under the huge Guanacaste trees and a herb garden for your use. Follow the path to the river to reach a secluded island with comfortable access (in season). We offer all the amenities to enjoy the river experience: a cooler, a picnic mat, bamboo plates, beach towels, water shoes and inflatable double kayak. Enjoy complimentary tropical fruit, handmade soaps, coffee, tea and drinking water . We offer a fully equipped kitchen, a hot and cold shower, board games, a spacious dining table and a lounge area with a great river view. We are Kids and pets friendly!! There is one AC unit in each bedroom only which is a treat for days with extreme temperatures but most days AC is not needed due to the great river breeze most of the time and by passive cooling the bedrooms stay cool. Our houses are environmentally friendly: We use a solar water heater and energy efficient lighting, together with only biodegradable products and minimal plastic use. We strive to make minimal impact on the environment. We offer a truly natural experience. Keep in mind that living in nature means we do get visits from multi-legged or flying critters inside the house. The occasional bangs from falling branches and the chirps and clicks of the geckos add to the tune the beautiful orchestra that nature plays for us :) We, the owners, live in San Ignacio and are always available to assist and help you to have the perfect stay. Anything you need weather it be an extra pillow or just some good recommendations - we are here to help. Alma del Rio is located 2 miles from Santa-Elena towards the Pine Ridge reserve. Though a sleepy road, before you reach our tranquil home, there are several great attractions - you will pass cool M farm where you can purchase fresh milk and Yogurt, Eden Valley Mayan kitchen to taste delicious locally made chocolate, 'The bluffs' bar and grill for great food, drinks and live music, Maya mountain lodge that only use organic, fresh, local produce in their menu (vegan options available too!). 2 Min drive from our house you can find a magical waterfall. In San Antonio village, we highly recommend trying the the women's co-op restaurant - the best in traditional, hearty Mayan dishes that are some of the best in Belize. If you travel by car, it's a easy as eating a pie; We are right on the road on the way to pine-ridge. A taxi can be arranged for around $20BZ ($10USD). Buses pass regularly during the day between Santa Elena and Cristo Rey for $2BZ($1USD). Once reaching San Ignacio everything is a walking distance, but taxis are available to take you around for as low as $2BZ ($1US). Around us we have a couple of restaurants only a few minutes drive as well as a beautiful water fall. We have a detailed book with all the information at the house. We can help with arranging your transportation and booking your tours with no extra cost - let us know what you're planning! Jan 21, 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Beautiful Home in the Jungle Our family of 5 (3 kids aged 17, 14 and 8) stayed at this property in early January. The property is absolutely beautiful, and the home(s) were so well cared for and gorgeous. Having the river right behind the home was fun for fishing and exploring. Also we always felt very safe not only in the area but the home also has a locked gate to enter and exit. There were all of the amenities we needed for our stay. The property is known for being environmentally friendly and is open in many ways to the outdoors. If you aren't the outdoorsy type or don't like camping this may not be for you. We loved being able to have the open showers, opening the doors to the screened porches and seeing wildlife right there. That also did present the risk of spiders and ants in the home. We were prepared and helped the spiders out and sprayed Off for the ants so it wasn't a huge deal after the first night.We aren't big planners but the owner and property manager were so accommodating. I messaged late in the evening a few times asking for help with excursions and they were so sweet and easily had things lined up for us the next day. We highly recommend the ATM tour but be sure to bring socks and read reviews. The property is very close to town with a grocery store right down the road and most of the attractions a short drive away. Overall, it was a great stay in San Ignacio and this property did not disappoint. ##### Krysti S.
