Not only is this motel conveniently located right at the end of the N Judah train line, which makes transportation very easy, but it also has the history of being the last place that Brad Nowell, of Sublime, spent his last hours. I didn’t know this until a security guard at the bar down the street told me on my last stay. Access to the beach is a short walk and Golden gat park is very close by. Staff was friendly. Check in was easy. My room was very clean. It's clear there have been more recent updates, but it does show a little wear now, though still nice. I really appreciate the hardwood floors rather than carpet. It also had A/C - which even in the city, rooms can get warm so it's a must for me. And I was happy to have a microwave and fridge. The room also had room darkening shutters and it was quiet - so I slept really well. Parking on site was easy and free, which in the city is a big plus! The hotel is a very short walk to the beach and there's a great coffee shop near by, and a great taco truck! The hote is right by where the trains turn around - but inside the hotel and room I couldn't hear them. I was traveling alone visiting family and I felt very safe and comfortable in the hotel and being able to park on site. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons. First is the location. While very close to the beach, it may look/feel a little 'iffy'. But again, I felt safe at the hotel and in my room. All the rooms are accessed inside and you have to have a key card to enter. The second reason is they don't have an elevator and rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. But overall this was a very affordable great little hotel with nice, clean rooms and everything I wanted and needed.
