Hot Tub and Pool were closed. Shower in our room didn't operate properly. Key entry system into room didn't operate effectively. Cleaning staff didn't speak/understand English. All we wanted was the bed made and she walked away and didn't do anything. At first, room looked very nice but it was not the room we reserved with a sofa seating area. Then discovered we had no towels and only 1 washcloth. The phone did not work, the remote was missing the battery cover. There was no wi-fi. Not very clean, dirty towels taken, then had to ask for clean towels, and get them ourselves. There were brackets for a mirror and pictures on the wall that had not been removed when the items were removed from the wall. There was mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. The toilet did not flush well unless you held the handle down for a considerable time. Then it would not stop filling. I had to open the back and push the plug into the hole at the base of the tank to allow it to fill. The toilet in the next room had not had that done apparently, because it ran the whole time we were there. The check-in was very slow due to the computer system not working well. The signage on the outside of the motel was almost non-existent - only a 4'X5' durable plastic banner by the entry. In fact, we went to the Holiday Inn Express across the street, thinking it was our reservation, because we couldn't even see Abilene Inn. When we booked this property, we explicitly searched for Holiday Inn Express. The pictures were of the property across the street which is a IHP property. This was a bate and switch. The property was old, dated and derelict. The key system entry to rooms didn’t work. The minimal staff were apologetic and polite however the price charged was not worth the expense and honestly we couldn’t wait to get out of there. Rooms in poor condition with such things as peeling wallpaper and a poorly fitted door that let hall light filter through. Bed was really awful. My wife and I were stiff the next morning. I thought the staff was nice and responsive but the owner needs to upgrade the property. Though one is asked at check in to sign an agreement that one won’t smoke (under penalty of $250 if you do) the room clearly smelled of old stale cigarette smoke. The breakfast was quite lacking as well. And to the owner(s), you should be ashamed putting people on beds like that. It showed a high rating, but the first room they assigned us was dirty and unmade from previous guests. Then they gave us a suite that was musty smelling. The hot tub was not in service. The "complimentary" breakfast was a huge let down- no fruit, no drinks, barely any cereal. We like the breakfast in the hotel for time and convenience so we were inconvenienced because we went out for breakfast. There was no water - I wanted to buy a water bottle but the machines were out. It appears this location is trying to hold on and business is slow. As a result, some renovation was going on. Our first room was in the process of redecoration and AC installation, so the excellent front desk attendant named JULIE was kind, cordial, and accommodating in providing an upgrade to a suite. To the new management, be sure to retain her as your first face of the location.
