Le zoo de Sacramento permet d'observer les lions, les zèbres et les autres animaux de la savane africaine paresser au soleil, et permet aussi d'avoir un aperçu de l'arrière-pays australien en regardant les kangourous sautiller entre les groupes d'émeus. La section réservée au monde étrange et merveilleux des reptiles fascine autant les adultes que les enfants. L'attraction vedette du zoo reste les petits pandas qui ressemblent à de gentils toutous et qui regardent les curieux du haut de leurs arbres.Le zoo de Sacramento est aménagé sur une superficie de 5,6hectares qu'il est facile de parcourir à pied en prenant le temps nécessaire pour bien voir les quelque 500animaux hébergés dans leurs différents habitats. Cependant, si vous accompagnez des enfants, il est bon de commencer par un tour du zoo en train. Cette visite guidée donne un excellent aperçu des principales attractions. Également très populaire auprès des enfants, le Conservation Carousel, à l'avant du parc, est un manège de 32animaux sculptés à la main comprenant, entre autres, un jaguar, un flamant et une coccinelle. Les visiteurs de tous les âges se sentent tout petits lorsqu'ils tendent une branche d'acacia aux girafes à l'heure des repas. Il est possible de nourrir les girafes à certaines heures. Vous pouvez obtenir l'horaire exact à la billetterie lorsque vous entrez sur le site. D'autres événements interactifs, comme le Wildlife Stage Show et des discussions avec les divers animaliers, sont organisés tous les jours en été et toutes les fins de semaine en hiver. Des œuvres d'art agrémentent les lieux et sont visibles le long du parcours. Mentionnons entre autres la *Fish Fountain* (fontaine poisson) et le *Pig in a Blanket* (cochon emmailloté dans une couverture). Lorsque la faim se fait sentir, le Kampala Café et le Savannah Snacks proposent des hamburgers, sandwiches et boissons. Le zoo de Sacramento est ouvert tous les jours de l'année. Il se trouve dans le William Land Park, au sud de la ville de Sacramento. Le stationnement est gratuit et l'autobus no6 partant du centre-ville y fait un arrêt Du mardi au vendredi, les écoliers viennent nombreux en matinée. Si vous souhaitez vous promener dans un zoo moins achalandé, essayez d'y aller le lundi matin ou durant l'après-midi en semaine. Les matinées de fins de semaine sont aussi assez calmes.
