On Rømø you can experience one of the widest sandy beaches in Europe, where you can drive all the way to the water in some places. Walk along the beach and take a refreshing swim in the clean North Sea. Every year, on the first weekend in September, up to 50,000 guests gather for Northern Europe's largest kite festival on the wide beach. Rent bicycles and experience the island from one of the many bike paths. Nature is magnificent and alternating with everything from beach, forest, heath and the Wadden Sea, UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you are lucky, you can experience the phenomenon of the black sun, an incredible experience when large flocks of starlings darken the evening sky with their formations before coming to rest in the reed forest of the marsh. Also see the area on horseback or take the little ones on an oyster safari.
