So, why the Homestead Nature Lodge? Well, that’s an easy one. At Huffman Creek Retreat, you’re getting much more than just a cabin. You’re practically getting a whole state park experience to yourself! Once you arrive there’s really no reason to leave. Enjoy the miles of private hiking trails that will take you to waterfalls, lookouts, our own meditation / picnic shelter, and even a plane crash! Keep an eye out for blackberries, mushrooms, singing birds, and beautiful blooms along the way. Prefer a little less adventure? No worries. Grab a book and relax by the creek in one of our hammocks or simply soak in the cool creek water after a restorative yoga flow on the massive back porch. If you’re traveling with a group bigger than a couple, there’s a chance you’ll have a mix of personalities. Some will hope to sleep in late, other’s will want a breakfast spread at sunrise, and some may stay up late into the night watching the stars. The Homestead’s 3-story layout is purposefully designed to accommodate just that. With a private suite on the main and lower level and a bunk room and 4th bedroom on the upper level, you can spread out and enjoy your vacation on your own timeline. Out of the entire week, we left the property for other activities only twice. The property has hiking, outdoor relaxing in hammocks or by a campfire. The kids were in love with the creek and spent hours splashing and exploring there. It is very remote but that’s what made it so wonderful. If you go, check out that night sky! ##### Karen H. Fishing, swimming, wading in the creek, hanging around the fire pit, etc. My only negative would be that the overall cleanliness of the cabin was a bit under par. The directions to the property were spot on. The house was spotless and very nice. The only thing that might give someone caution with rent this house is that you have to go back a gravel road to get to it. If you're an inexperienced rider you may have a problem. We did not have any issues with bringing in our trailer or riding in and out. A group of Harleys didn't seem to have a problem either. I just think that you should know. Basement smelled of mold and mildew so wasn’t able to use bedroom due to intense odor. Shower water pressure was inconsistent and made showering not easy. Aug 21, 2018 #### Hidden Gem in the Carolina's What an amazing family vacation! I cant say enough good things about Huffman Creek. The cabin fit our group (8 adults and 3 children) with room to spare. We utilized the kitchen and dining area every day for at least 2 meals. The kids spent time in the hot tub outside on the deck. Even though it rained a few times early in the week, we were eventually able to roast marshmallows in the fire pit. We enjoyed our time in the creek and on the hiking trails that were all on property. We took day trips to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg & Cherokee with plenty of great stops along the way. There were a couple of minor maintenance issues at the house that were addressed promptly (thank you Jesse). Though our Honda Accord made it with no issues, I do recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle as there is a lot of mountainous driving as well as gravel roads. May 4, 2018 #### Upgrades Galore! Perfect Trip for the Whole Family Every once in a blue moon I get together with my siblings. We all travel pretty extensively and over the years we have tried everything from beach excursions to big city trips. The older we have gotten, the harder we find it to find the perfect location for our growing families. Each of us being years apart, we have very different needs. For us, we look for somewhere that can accommodate 3 families, a few kids, and also offer activities. Being that we all have a background in the food industry, a properly equipped kitchen is a huge deal. This place met all of our needs plus. The newly renovated kitchen was awesome, the addition of an extra bathroom downstairs was perfect, and the hosts were great. Everyone loved the outside hot tub and the hiking trails were admittedly a bit chilly in January but an awesome feature to keep us from having to leave the property. I can't recommend this place enough. Can't wait to get back.
