Its interior includes 4 spacious bedrooms that can comfortably sleep up to 8 adults, a very large open plan living-dining-kitchen area with ample sitting for all our guests and two bathrooms. The exterior area's luscious garden, private swimming pool with separate children's pool and adjacent BBQ, will be the perfect surroundings for you to enjoy a rejuvenating holiday in Crete! Villa Elena is located 14 kilometres east of Rethymno, on the outskirts of Viran Episkopi, a quiet village built around the old diocese of 'Agrion' which had been established in the area during the Venetian occupation of Crete. Its central location along the island and its proximity to the north National Highway (2,5kms away) make it the ideal accommodation for excursions the west, east, north and south parts of Crete! The villa is 180sq.m. large, has a 45sq.m. private swimming pool with separate children’s pool and is surrounded by a rich, beautiful garden within a 14.000sq.m. private olive grove. The first floor main entrance leads into a large open plan dining room/lounge furnished with period furniture, an adjacent sitting room with comfortable sitting, followed by a fully equipped built-in kitchen with a large dining table. There is also a spacious bathroom with shower/WC. A wooden staircase leads to the second floor which has four bedrooms, all of them with air-conditioning and a spacious bathroom with bathtub/WC. Two of the bedrooms have queen-size double beds and two have twin beds. A baby cot is available on request. The balconies spanning around both floors offer you breathtaking, panoramic views towards the mountains of Psiloritis and Lefka Ori and the surrounding landscape. The nearest taverns can be found at 300m distance in Viran Episkopi, whereas the sandy beach and nearest super-markets are in Stavromenos just 2,5 Kms away. In the small town of Perama 10 Kms away, there are super-markets, banks and ATMs, the post office, taverns and a large variety of shops. Interesting nearby outings can be made to the traditional village of Margarites, the historical monastery of Arkadi, the ancient ruins and the museum of old Eleftherna. Due to the quiet setting, a car would be considered essential to explore the immediate area and the island in general. The recommendation to use Yannis at SevenCar Rental was exactly the type of local knowledge that you need when you are visiting a new area. The villa is perfectly located for exploring the island whether you want to go East, West or South and the town of Rethymno is a perfect town for shopping, chilling or eating. There are several great restaurants within a short drive. The outdoor oven with a supply of wood is a great option for cooking for yourself.And no review would be complete without mentioning the 4 legged tourist ambassador that greats you every time you come back to your home from home - Bella was the perfect bundle of energy that bounced around to say hi and brought a bigger smile to our faces.Thank you Yannis for sharing your villa with us and we look forward to staying again. ##### Maria B. First have to mention the responsiveness and friendliness of Yiannis in welcoming us with a home-cooked meal and giving lots of tips, etc. Above and beyond expectations. The pool area is great for kids and clean, the grill works great, and you can even monitor the kids from one of the balconies. Kitchen is well-equipped (which is often not the case in these types of properties) and rooms are clean and comfortable. Well laid out with ample room for our group of 4\. The kitchen equipment provided for all our needs with plenty of space, plates, glassware etc The bedrooms were of a good size with efficient air conditioning, storage and comfortable beds. Outside, a good sized pool kept immaculately clean adjacent to an excellent bbq and stone oven that we used. Maria provided us with a lovely stone baked roast chicken, lemon and potato dish and a traditional orange dessert. This was absolutely delicious. Overall we had a lovely holiday at Villa Elena with plenty of sights to see in the area. Should have spent another week here! ##### Toby G. Yiannis was a great host, happy to support with anything and to help make our stay enjoyable. We all thought the villa exceeded our expectations. We had everything we needed, pool and area & BBQ was fabulous, and the villa was very clean. We were a little disappointed there weren't any places to eat within walking distance - the local cafe snack bar is good for casual drink etc. However we had a hire car and able to head to beaches and explore local villages, aswel as further afield to Chania and Iraklion. Rethymno is about 15 minutes drive and a lively great town to visit. We love Crete anyway and this villa just topped our stay. Thanks Yiannis and family :-) ##### Roz C. The pool and pool area is absolutely fabulous, surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers, secluded, peaceful - incredible! The host, Yiannis, was amazing - warm, welcoming and very attentive, ensuring our stay was comfortable and that our time in Crete was enjoyable and the best it could be (it was!). On our arrival we found that dinner had been prepared for us (very welcome for tired travellers and absolutely delicious - thank you to Yiannis' Mum!) and Yiannis, although away on holiday himself, took time to video call to personally welcome us and make sure all was well. Cleaners and the Pool Man visited every couple of days during our stay and did a fabulous job. Towards the end of our stay a delicious homemade pudding arrived for us to enjoy (thanks again to Yiannis' mum ). We could not fault our stay. We had the very best of holidays in the Villa Elena and Crete - we did not want to leave! ##### Rachel A. The local village has 2 very good tavernas just 5 minutes walk away from the villa, at which we had several excellent and very economical meals amongst a good crowd of friendly locals. Parking for our hire car was secure, and the surrounding area very rural. The villa was furnished in a characterful if somewhat quirky fashion, and the level of equipment was excellent. A particular feature of the villa was the very warm welcome we received, and the high standard of service support. The twice-weekly clean was always accompanied by some local food delicacy provided by the owner's mother.
