I was happy to see it being used heavily even on a cold and cloudy day in December. I was impressed by the extent of re-use seen in the walls and seating areas which are constructed from bricks and objects unearthed on the site when Railroad Park construction began. This 19 acre green-space was very well thought out and planned. 600 trees are planted with masses of annual, biennial and perennial flowers. The park is 30% water, complete with a beautiful lake and cool rain curtain that is lit at night with LED lights that change color. As you stroll or jog along the parks trails you will see bio-filtrated wetlands and ponds & streams everywhere all irrigated by onsite wells. As the trees start to mature this will only increase the parks awesomeness. Well Done Birmingham ! The Park is open 7am-11pm daily. (47 reviews) EXTREMELY difficult to get to find the access to the building. EVERY uber we ordered came to the location adjacent to the 3rd street "entrance" which we could not access. once we finally got into the building--a resident above the hamburger place helped us walk the entire grounds to eventually see the ramp and entrances for 1st floor access--we then found out that we had to download two apps so that we could get door codes. we spent 90 minutes sorting out HOW to get to the entrance and then organizing the apps to get the locks arranged. once that was figured out, access for us was simple. uber drivers all said they had difficulty getting guests from this location in the past. shower had no hot water and the pressure was terrible. (47 reviews) Was incredibly difficult to get into the building with having to download two apps. They did not send me the instructions to get in by the time of check-in and I had to call their helpdesk four times which was also a convoluted and unnecessarily difficult process. They try to do everything remotely through different “ “departments” - one having to verify you, another, having the check in instructions. None of this was sent to me by email from Expedia or them, even though I had prepaid everything. When I finally got all that figured out and got into my studio, somebody walked in the room after I’ve been there about 45 minutes- they were from one of the maintenance or management- they didn’t know that I was there and didn’t knock, just walked right in. That made me feel unsettled for the rest of my time there because I realized there was no way to lock the door from the inside, and that anyone with the app could just unlock the door and come in. Because they’ve outsourced everything to different companies, there’s no central way that someone could show a guest has checked in. That’s how my trip started within the first hour so I never really got comfortable and left early because of how unsafe I felt. It’s too bad because it was a decent set up inside, clean and minimal. I would highly recommend a stop for one of their tours that they offer on Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm on the hour. Signing up online is the best way to go to reserve a slot.
