Set just off the Old Island Highway, it’s a convenient mid-Island base for exploring — minutes to the nearest beach and about 10 minutes to Qualicum Beach. It’s perfect as a stopover en-route to Tofino or the North Island, or for a longer, slower retreat in nature. Parksville and Coombs are an easy drive, with outdoor favourites like Spider Lake (\~15 min), Cathedral Grove (\~25 min), Horne Lake Caves (\~25 min), and Mount Washington (\~45 min) all within easy reach. SHARED SAUNA EXPERIENCE We’re so excited to share our new shared wood-fired sauna with you, complete with a change area and an outdoor cold water shower for the full hot/cold reset. If you plan to use it, you’ll need to be comfortable building and tending a fire as well as using an axe to prep kindling. Please be mindful of the one other cabin when sharing the sauna space. Wood-fired heat is unhurried — it\`ll take a little time to get cozy. Further guidelines and safety notes will be shared before arrival and posted onsite. THE CABIN When we say “hand built,” we mean it. This cabin was crafted from the ground up by local islander Francis Provencal, who lives on the property across the creek with his family — from felling and milling timber to the cozy interior, doors, and finishing touches. INSIDE YOU\`LL FIND: \-Warm open living area with hand-peeled logs and gorgeous wide plank wood floors \-TV with Firestick (streaming) + DVD player and a large DVD collection \-Fully equipped kitchen with all cooking essentials, plus coffee & tea \-Small indoor dining table \-Spacious loft with two queen beds \-Queen sofa bed downstairs for extra sleeping space \-3-piece bathroom with a shower/tub combo \-Two decks (front + back), with a large back deck featuring an outdoor dining table for 6 and a propane BBQ (propane included) WIFI & CELL SERVICE Wi-Fi works great. Cell service is limited inside the cabin and works best outdoors — Wi-Fi calling is an easy solution. PARKING & PRIVACY Free designated parking is right outside the cabin. You’ll have plenty of privacy — your cabin sits beside just one other. The owners are nearby across the creek if anything comes up, but you likely won’t see them. PETS Well behaved pets are welcome. The rear deck is fenced, but the yard is not fully fenced, so pups should be well-behaved and supervised if off-leash. Thank you Bree for letting us stay on the cozy log cabin. We travelled there during spring break (2 adults, 3 kids ages 10-5) for 5 days and 4 nights and during the stay the whole family enjoyed the stay.The place was cleaned and we had all the supplies needed there, we did not have to get any other supplies but food. The beds upstairs were good enough for us as we still had smaller kids that just sleep together. It got hot upstairs on the loft during the nights due to the nice wooded stove that we used all the time during our stay, still need to figure out how to get it not so hot upstairs at night haha. But that made it fun for us to experiment on how much wood to put and etc. Plenty of wood to use as the shed is just outside the cabin if you need more. Location is great, and it was easy to find during the day. It was good location because it was centralised enough that it didn't feel far away which was good. Parking was in front of the cabin so that was good too. Overall we would definitely visit there again maybe in the winter time and play with the wooden stove again when its colder haha. Wifi and TV.The kitchen had all the basic utensils we needed. The BBQ out back was a little temperamental, but once lit, it did the job.There are two cabins on the property we stayed at with two campfire pits and chairs. A great set up for multiple friends/family or some type of reuniion.Plenty of precut fire wood on site that costs about 10.00 a container. Two containers easily lasted us the 4 days with the would stove.Great little holiday, would recomment it and do it again. ##### Douglas H. Wish we could have stayed for a third night, we were sad to be leaving. The cabin is rustic yet modern and has everything you need for a cozy getaway. Loved how the train tracks were just behind the cabin. We went for several walks along them and our son loved finding little lizzards,bugs and slugs. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to stay at this location. It was clean and peaceful! We were sad we had only booked one week and not two. We will definitely be returning to this location. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need; from brewing your morning coffee to preparing a steak dinner. Don't be put off if you are unsure about the outhouse! The outhouse is the cleanest one I have ever been in. Comfortable to use with enough outdoor lighting for late night trips to the bathroom. The back deck is amazing and provides a good view of all the owls who swoop through the trees at night. Thank you to Bree for trusting us with this space for the week! Kids had a wonderful time playing in and outside of the cabin. Things that could be improved: 1\. Address and map on the website were not accurate, we looked for the cabin for a while in the dark before calling to the owner. 2\. Toilet seat is a bit in deep position that for small boys it is tricky. ##### Miki N.
