With its lush fields, eclectic vegetation and picturesque lake, the Parco del Gelso brings a welcome green side to Bellaria-Igea Marina. As the city’s main park, it is a popular spot for fitness enthusiasts and contains an open-air gym beside a couple sports complexes. Make your way through the various thematic zones to enjoy the full experiences of this scenic park. Sunbathe on the grass or cool down in the shade of a pine or downy oak tree while reading a book. The 100-acre (40-hectare) park offers a leafy alternative to the white sand beaches a few blocks east. Walk along the pathway that meanders between fields and bring your kids to the swings and climbing frames of the playground. Gracing the northwestern corner of the park is Mulberry Lake. Lay down a blanket on its shoreline and enjoy a picnic. Walk out along one of the elegant wooden piers and appreciate the views from the deck at the lake’s southeastern end. Spot fisherman with legs dangling over the sides of the jetty. Kids can watch the ducks, swans and fish in this aquatic zone. Bordering the lake are four clay tennis courts, in keeping with the park’s sports theme. Practice your technique in the Gelso Sport swim club. At the adjacent Palazzetto dello Sport, take lessons in martial arts, use the multifunctional gym or join a basketball game. Near the lake, you’ll encounter joggers, cyclists and yoga devotees. Work out on the machines of the outdoor gym. Among the park’s themed zones are the Butterfly Garden and the Jurassic Mulberry area, which contains fiberglass statues of prehistoric figures and dinosaurs. Parco del Gelso marks the center of Bellaria-Igea Marina, just north of Bordonchio. Ride the train to the Igea Marina railway station on the eastern fringe of the park or take a bus to a neighboring stop. Excellent restaurant next door but there are cheaper options in easy driving distance (outside of Sassuolo). Sassuolo itself isn't particularly driver-friendly so one is better off heading to nearby towns for restaurants. Large supermarket up the road and small refrigerator (empty) in room so can use as personal mini bar. AC may require assistance from hotel staff to make function properly. Reggio Emilia located in a central position in such a way as to leave the car in their parking lot or possibly in the parking lot near the train station (about 2 minutes on foot) from there the whole route starts thanks to electric mobility and also the convenient services of the city.
