Our second camp site at Hanaker had an amazing hike up the canyon wall to a look out over the river and canyon. Very hot hike, but the views were amazing. It was convenient to Pagosa Springs, but was just far enough out to make it nice and peaceful (no traffic noise). The house was clean and spacious. Since we were there for the week, we prepared most of our meals at the house. I loved the gas stove and oven. At night, we watched movies around the gas fireplace and enjoyed the peace and tranquility! My boys like to fish and you are able to obtain a fishing permit from the property owners association to fish the 4 or 5 private lakes in the area. The local residents are super nice as well. While purchasing our fishing permit at the Wyndham rec center (the property owners association bldg), a local gentleman overheard that my 13 year old and I were getting ready to fish. He explained that the lower lakes were good fishing until they freeze over. He invited us that afternoon to ice fish with him and some friends, where we caught an abundance of fish.
