It is a 10 minute walk to the ferry terminal. The best dive shop on the island is across the street from the hotel. You can walk across the street to the beach for swimming and snorkeling. In desperate need of an update. We were given the keys to our room and that was the last time we saw any staff at the hotel. The hotel also needs some maintenance work. Pool can not be used. It's unkept. Sofa chairs by beach were a mess. We were just happy we had working AC, wifi & Breakfast at mornings. Everything else was trash! The seaside location is a gem and the staff members are friendly and attentive (special shout-out to Julia). An added bonus is the proximity to another excellent restaurant, as well as a scuba center for those who come to Statia to dive. The room was big, and clean, all the facilities and services worked, but the overall impression is that the Old Gin House needs a refurbish, and the photos we found before our stay were either out of date, or modified to look better that the place really was. The pool area was especially dirty and decrepit. The staff were nice, but not very welcoming, lucklily the area around the hotel, and above all the barrel house,restaurant was very nice. We booked room 301, which was a lovely suite, with a balcony overlooking the water. Between the balcony and the flower adorned pool area, there were plenty of chances to sit back and relax.
