The 900 sq foot rustic cabin is bright and airy, with water views from every room (except the bathroom), cedar ceilings, and new lighting and a ceiling fan in the living room that keep it cheery year-round, even on stormy days. Two efficient AC window units now added during peak months to each bedroom (total count of #2) for those few warm summer days, though usually opening the windows to capture the ocean breeze are enough to cool off. The new updated kitchen packs in all the creature comforts of home with stainless appliances and even a small dishwasher. Heating has been updated with baseboard electric heat and is cozy year-round. Outside you'll enjoy our expansive deck, private fire pit with plenty of firewood, and seasonal outdoor grill and steps to the beach (available March through October). If Sunset Beach Haven is booked, check out our other waterfront property on famous Penn Cove, "Sandpiper Haven". \-------------------------------- Each day brings beautiful views of ships, birds and sometimes seals and otters, and occasionally whales playing in the water, and of the snowy peaks of the Olympic Mountains rising in the distance across the waters of Admiralty Inlet. To the east, watch the sun rise over the Swantown Lake Wildlife Refuge. Every window has a view of the water, but the Living Room is west facing to capture the warmth of the afternoon sun on a large private deck in fair weather, or inspire romance watching storm-churned waves while comfortably seated inside. Evenings can be spent curled up with a book on super comfy new living furniture, playing games and doing puzzles with friends and family, or watching a movie. Use the grill on the deck (available seasonally) and end the evening with a camp fire in our outdoor fire pit (wood is usually available.) Or, you may prefer an evening out with great dining options in Coupeville, Oak Harbor and beyond. The house sleeps up to 4 comfortably, with up to 5 by approval (and an extra fee). There is a pillow-top Queen Bed in the Master, and two twins in the second bedroom. The twins can be pushed together with added bedding to "make a king bed". There is a sleeper sofa is in the Living Room with added foam topper. We even provide a portable crib and bedding for infants. Action seekers may launch their own kayaks and paddle boards to test their skills on the exposed beaches of Whidbey Island's west shore, or make the ten minute trip to launch in world famous Penn Cove for a quieter, more relaxing experience. Take the opportunity to explore the hiking at Ebey's Landing, and bike the trails of "The Kettles" exploring a landscape scoured by glaciers thousands of years ago. Sunset Beach Haven has been updated since 2012 with new finishes, appliances, dishes, cookware, and furnishings. Wiring, and plumbing have also been updated and insulation has been added as well. New radiant heaters keep the house comfortable, even in the winter storms. New ceiling fan in the LR adds comfort along with NEW seasonal window AC units in the bedrooms. The historic waterfront town of Coupeville, can be reached in about ten minutes by car. Enjoy a "Practical Magic" walking tour, wine tasting, or try fresh Penn Cove mussels at any of several great restaurants. Oak Harbor, to the east, is even closer for major shopping amenities and restaurants. Deception Pass Bridge and State Park are about 15 minutes north. To the south lies Fort Ebey, Fort Casey, Ebey's Landing and the nearby Coupeville Ferry with service to historic Port Townsend. Greenbank Winery, antiques shops, galleries, and the town of Langley are further afield. Being on the waters edge is so calming. We enjoyed the sunsets, beachcombing, and had 3 otters that we were able to watch regularly. The fire pit was nice as well. Peter and Julie are the best of hosts in that they checked in by text several days after we were in the house and then left it to us to contact them as needed. It's fun having the waves come right up to the deck. The Haven is very well equipped and the furniture is very comfortable. Julie and Peter were excellent to communicate with regarding our trip. Was nice to find a place with a pack-n-play, high chair and baby toys. The heat source was a hot vent along the floor, so we had to keep our 12 month crawler away from it. From the deck you could see Swan Lake, the Olympics, the Salish Sea, Canada, and the San Juan Islands. There were tons of Eagles and Herons all over the place. It was so peaceful and relaxing. This visit, we spent less time exploring the island and more time at the cabin due to work obligations and made great use of their extensive board game stash while enjoying the water views. I had hoped to be out on the deck everyday during our trip but Mother Nature had other plans. But the beauty of this property is that you can still enjoy the view from inside and stay warm and dry! We’ve stayed at a lot of very nice VRBO‘s but none that have paid so much attention to detail. Pete and Julie were fantastic to work with and thought of everything. From bottled water in the refrigerator, to extra supplies in the bathroom, lots of comfy blankets, extra fans, spices, coffee, etc.! The home was spotlessly clean and had an extremely well stocked kitchen. The sunsets are breathtaking from the deck and the sound of the ocean waves is incredible. We had everything we needed! The hosts have clearly put in great effort to ensure their guests have a perfect stay. The hosts were very communicative and check in/check out were smooth. The proximity to the water was amazing. High tide had the water right up to the rock wall/bulkhead. One evening we were treated to a seal splashing around putting on a show just off the deck. Low tide provided an amazing beach to explore the sand and tide pools. My kids (ages 2 and 5) had a blast. We will definitely return to this property. ##### Emily v. Everything about this place is absolutely lovely! The view is unreal, we enjoyed watching sunset, all the wildlife and listening to the waves crash everyday. The house is perfect and has everything you need. It’s very clean, cozy, and you feel like you’re right at home. It’s location is great too- easy access to anywhere on Whidbey or even for a day-trip into Seattle. The house is so comfortable, it’s like being at home. The view of the sound is amazing! There are resident bald eagles always out that fly right overhead. We also saw a pair of otters this time. When I walked in the first time, I was immediately comfortable. It's better than the pictures. The views are incredible - Olympics are right there! Being able to hear the waves lap on shore, even in the winter, was special. They provide binoculars so I kept them on the table ready to check out birds, ships, whatever. I was there during a snow event which was both lovely and disappointing - I was prepared to hike in the rain but not snow - but very glad to have a wonderful house to cozy into. ##### Mary S. This place served as the perfect hub for our honeymoon allowing for a central location to visit the North Cascades for hiking, travel over to Victoria and the wonderful Butchart Gardens, and spend time in Seattle this spot has it all. We ended up enjoying the views from the Island and house so much we decided to not drive to one of the nearby National Parks and stay on the island in Deception Pass, the local forts and towns for the day and then relax and enjoy all the amazing scenery on the beach and from the cottage's deck. The pictures on the listing do not do this home justice. Words cannot describe how amazing this place is and how amazing the views of the sound at sunset are. If you are looking for a house with amazing views and comfort, this one is it. We were there for our honeymoon but the owners had made sure there were plenty of things available for all family types and ages. The owners were very prompt in responses and thorough with their pre check-in process. The next time we are in the area we will definitely be staying here again as long as Peter and Julie are still the owners! ##### aaron m.
