The best area to stay in Nyanungu is generally within the boundaries of a top safari lodge or tented camp, as these are strategically located to maximise wildlife viewing experiences and provide all-inclusive services. For travellers prioritising an authentic and immersive safari experience, staying in a luxury tented camp within the northern Serengeti, particularly near the Mara River crossing points, is ideal. These camps offer a more intimate connection with nature, often featuring canvas walls, private verandas, and a high level of personalised service. Their locations are chosen for prime viewing of the Great Migration, especially from July to October, without the need for long drives to and from a main gate.Couples looking for a romantic and exclusive escape will find the smaller, boutique lodges or camps in the central Serengeti to be particularly appealing. These establishments often provide private plunge pools, gourmet dining, and tailored game drives. The central Serengeti offers excellent year-round wildlife viewing, including predators like lions and leopards, making it a fantastic choice regardless of the migration's location. For families, larger lodges often provide more amenities, such as swimming pools and activities designed for younger guests, while still offering excellent access to game drives.

The best time to go to Nyanungu for wildlife viewing is during the dry season, which runs from late June to October.During these months, the weather is generally sunny with little to no rain, making it easier to spot wildlife. The vegetation is sparser, and animals tend to congregate around water sources, which simplifies tracking them. This period also coincides with the Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest and zebras cross the Mara River, offering an incredible spectacle for travellers. For those looking for a quieter experience with lush landscapes and birdwatching opportunities, the green season from November to May can also be a good choice. While there might be occasional short rains, the landscape is vibrant, and it's a prime time for bird migration.
